Input shaft breakage comes usually from torque spikes.
This includes locked shifting and large rpm drops from fluid coupling into lockup under heavy throttle.
The 2000 and later trucks that shift locked to locked from third to overdrive are actually breaking input shafts with stock power.
Tight converters have a smaller RPM drop from fluid coupling to lockup and are less likely to break a shaft during lockup engagement.
Did you break an input shaft? There seems to be a lot of input shaft breakage lately behind the scenes.
