Linkback capabilities?

Thanks, TDR Staff

it would be cool if they made a TDR screen saver

Posting Pictures - How to make them Bigger when clicked on....

I don't really think it has a purpose other than you can look at all the other forums that have made a link to the thread... you can read what they have to say about your thread. I guess that's the purpose. Check out that Tundra Thread. It's somewhat interesting.

It is turned on. Look above the first post on this thread and you'll see the link back pull down and the link back url is right there.

OK, maybe I wasn't clear. I understand that the link to the this thread (whatever thread I'm looking at) is in the linkback.

But what I'm talking about is all the links below the thread on the Tundra site. If you follow my links and look at the bottom of the Tundra thread it will show all the sites that have linked to that thread.

I believe it will do that as well once that happens. This was only recently put on the site so there isn't much out there. I know I have seen it come up on some threads although I don't have a specific one to show you.

I can't seem to find where any of these are in use!? Is the TDR so hated online that no one ever links to it from other websites?

I did find this thread has 1 active Linkback, but it seems to simply come from the TDR or something weird.

I know for a fact that there's a link to a fuel system thread here on my personal website, but that thread has no indications of any Linkback.

I think you need to be using the new url's for it to function. The link on your site goes to the old style url with just the thread id. Try changing that link to the url listed in the linkback menu and then click on it on your site and see if a linkback is then shown on that thread. If not then I'll have to do some digging to see why it isn't working.

Just figured out that I had it set where I had to moderate them all (DOH)! I've got them turned on so that they are automatically shown now. Let me know if it doesn't work now. I still think you have to use the new url's though.

Okay, Steve, that worked... mostly. I changed the address in the link on my site to the newest one (copied directly from the address bar - not the "linkback URL" in the linkback menu), and now you'll notice this page lists 1 linkback.

However, now when someone clicks that link on my site, the formatting for the TDR page is all funky (right-justified). Strange...

Hmmm... now it's not reformatting to right-justified anymore. Maybe it only does that on the first click?

That's VERY strange. My guess is that it was something with your browser. I don't know how anything here could change the formatting like that.

Steve, can you explain what the linkback in this thread is? The first one (since the link I just posted will probably generate another linkback). It says it's a linkback for "Post #4", but post 4 has no links in it.

On edit: nope, the link in this post to the other thread didn't generate a new linkback...

Ryan

Probably something someone posted and then deleted or edited.

Do you access the site through www.turbodieselregister.com, tdr1.com, or turbodieselregistry.com ? I'm trying to get all the links to be to the turbodieselregister.com address so I excluded any from tdr1.com or turbodieselregistry.com.

Steve, I'm not sure this thing is working right. I keep getting linkback notices for posts where the linkback is just a refback originating from the same thread.

Have a look at the General Diesel section, which has numerous threads with a single linkback. In every case, the linkback is simply a link to the same thread.
