Dealer is getting my truck on Monday to address my recently acquired injector knock. Was just wondering if there is any flashes/updates/TSB's I should have him address while it's there other than activating my high idle capabilities? It's an early '04 so I haven't been troubled w/mileage woes, white smoke, etc. Thoughts???

Click on Website Features (on the top menu) and then click on TSB's. You might have to log in, but you can get a list of TSBs and recalls. If it's an early `04 you might have them flush the radiator and put new antifreeze in. And if you are getting in the 20,000 mile range you might also think about changing out the fluid in the transmission and differential. Just make sure they reuse use the differential gasket and not use RTV to seal it.

Why do you suggest "Just make sure they reuse use the differential gasket and not use RTV to seal it. " What is the problem with RTV ?

Thanks

I wouldn't know of any problems with RTV, but the reuseable gaskets work well and save time. I RTV'd my '01 a few times and "only" had to redo it once. The gaskets are pretty much foolproof.

I think is was on the TDR where I read that someone had their fluid changed, and RTV was used instead of the original gasket and they ended up with a leaking pumpkin. If I remember correctly, the work was also done at a Dodge dealer. I tried searching for the post, but could only narrow it down to several hundred. I think the gist of it was that the differential is designed for an O-ring type gasket, and the RTV won't seal it properly. I had my differential fluid changed out at about 15,000 miles, and specifically had them note on the work order not to use RTV. As it turns out, the gasket is an excellent quality gasket, and should be able to be used several times, if not for the life of the truck.
