Anyone going to the CalClassic this weekend?

AZ to Tulare, Ca., anyone going?

:) Ok you AZ Diesel people you missed another fun Friday night at the Drags. I spent the evening trying to get the “01 to hook up on worn out street tires. My best was a 15. 2 @93. 2mph. Ben was turning 13. 3x’s steady. While big Jim’s gave a parking lot seminar on “how to change out a turbo under a lamp post with only hand tools”. None the less we had a great time and wondered where the rest of you guys were?

Is anyone interested in making a run to the “ Sandia Showdown “ over in Belen, NM Oct. 11th?

;) :D

I'm interested in making a trial towing run with my new truck. Maybe some of the local Buick Grand National people will want to bring out cars down that night. Don't know about racing the tow vehicles, but might be fun. What have the temperatures/Density Altitude been like. I know your something like 3300 FT track altitude, right?

AZ dudes

I talked to allen today and we'll be down in Tucson on Sep 5. It would sure be nice to have about 10 to 15 diesel pickups running down there. I also talked to Ben and he's going to come also, lets get out there and show them what these trucks can do. I'd love to see that Grand National run too.

Az diesel events

We will be racing at SIR on Sept. 5th,gates open at 5:00,so bring your food, drinks and what u plan on racing. Last time i was out seems like a whole lot more people were racing a variety of vehicles. Elevation is about 2300ft. ,temps will be near 75-90. Cools down here ,doesn't hold heat like Phx.

Take I-10 east or west to Houghton rd. ,head south Approx. 1. 5mi u can't miss it.

Jes,It looks like Jim,Ben,Aron and myself are in for the Sandia showdown!Well set things up at the races. Oo.

Are u guys up after Sandia, drive back sat. night to make truckin nationals on Sunday. Cmon guys u game?

Arrggghhhh... . Tucson? That's a touch too far for me to drive after I get out of class at 4 PM on Friday.

I do however plan on being at the DHRA race in PHX whenever it's coming up (October I think?)

Will keep my eye on this section now, and if anything else is coming up would like someone to PM me if they would.

Later, Josh

Elevation is actually 3,075 ft but the track itself is one of the best in Division 7. We generally run about . 2 slower in Tucson than we do in the Phoenix area due to increased density altitude.

Density altitude is pressure altitude compensated for non-standard temperature. Standard temp is, I believe, 15*C at sea level. That is considered a "standard day" to pilots.

Density altitude basically means that, say you live at 4000' elevation, and it's 95*F out, then really the altitude your truck engine (or airplane in the case that I learned it) sees is about 6500'... . big difference on performance, ESPECIALLY TO PLANES, which rely on the thick air for better performance from the engine AND the prop.

Hope I got it across ok.

I am planning on making it to tucson for the 5th. I'll see if I can round up another Truck or two.....

Walcott, Thanks for the heads up!!

Need Smoke

I talked to a friend in a rice burner club, mentioned to him that we were racing our diesel trucks on Sept 5, 03, he replied he loves to race pickup trucks because he always wins. I asked him if he raced a Cummins and he replied diesels are slow. I invited his ricer friends to the race and asked how fast his car was his replied was mid 15, I chuckled, turned and walked away only to see his face with a puzzled funny look. Did not say a word just waived and said we will see you Friday. SIR is about to be welcomed to out diesel world which we enjoy so much. I'm asking for the Arizona Diesel Chapter to come out and support the race.

Lets show'em what the AZ Chapter knows about making smoke!!

The Cummins cop

As i'm heading back to Tucson from Globe the highway patrol passes me as i'm at 65 in a 55 mph, well he whips around throws the red and blues and pulls me over,he asks for my lic. Then comments on my a-pillar gauges,i ask him if he drives a diesel? He tells me he has a 01 Cummings in his Dodge, after 15 min. or so of two diesel heads talking he tells me it's just a warning this time. Yea! My lucky day and met another diesel head in my neck of the desert. One of the better times i can remember,u never know who might come your when u least expect it!!
