I Had to install a transmission/xfer case in an old FJ40 that I owned many moons ago, and used a similar method. Being by myself, and the combo was over 250 lbs, I used a cherry picker thru the driver door and picked up the combo. Slid the trannie/xfer under the vehicle, came thru the door with the cherry picker and picked it right up. It took about 20 minutes, As I picked up the combo, I was able to guide it in from the top and it slid right in. Granted the land cruiser was a beater and I didn't care if I knocked around the interior. I would think the balance point of the hoist in the bed is all wrong though, must have been really "tippy"

Looks like he has tie downs from the cherry picker to the rear corners of the bed. Interesting to say the least... .



I did the same as Ranger Dick on my CJ-7. didn't have access to a trans jack - had a cherry picker. Had to make it work.

I've also seen guys use a come-along attached to their full roll cages on Jeeps and Land Cruisers.
