any good dealers around Springfield, Ore. Read about lithia and dont wanna go here. sitting in front of them waiting for them to open HELP

thanks for the replys, i've driven about 500 miles since this started, it only happens rite after i start it up, the overhead map lite is what i noticed blinking on and off almost, dimming almost to off, plus the amp gauge was bouncing along with the lite dimming. then when i drive after about 200 300 yards the amp meter goes up to normal and everthing is fine. But everytime i first start it it does the low charge theing and the lite thing i have checked the belt and the tentioner all seems ok. couple of time i got a bit of a whine when accelerating.

That is definitely your grid heaters cycling. There's nothing to worry about... perfectly normal when the engine compartment temp is 66 degrees or lower.

Like others have said, the grid heaters stop cycling when the engine warms up or after your speed goes above about 18 mph.

Thanks

thanks guys i feel much better now, don't need to find a dealer now , had me pretty worried with the temps in the teens, didn't want to be stuck on the road.

If you watch the voltmeter, you can even tell if one or both grid heaters are on. Both on, the needle goes lower. IIRC, they pull ~90-100 amps EACH.

Definitely just the grid heaters. Nothing at all too worry about, they will cycle for about 2 - 2 1/2 minutes or when you hit 18 MPH they will go off. Also if you leave your truck idiling for a couple minutes and it is below freezing out, you will see your RPM's ramp up to around 1,000 RPM. Again it is all normal.

By the way, what is wrong with Lithia.
