When I took delivery of my truck in February... it had just rolled off the carrier. The shop did a quick "prep"... and with no further adieu or training... I was truckin'. On the way home I noticed a little red push-button mounted to the upper left side of the face plate on my dash. With visions of "007" and spring-loaded-ejection-seats in my head... I opted NOT to push the little-red-button. A few days later... after I had read the owners manual... and tried all the buttons-n-knobs... I drove back to the dealership (5-star) and asked the Truck Manager what it was for. He got 3 guys from the shop and they all stood around lookin' at it going "huh!?!" They checked in-under-and-around the dash and finally guessed that it was some sort of a limited factory option which "might" disarm the alarm system for ... oh... say... valet parking. But after pushin' the thing for 15 minutes and not getting anything to happen... they said... "must not be hooked up eh?" #ad

Duh!... Anybody got one that works and can tell me what it does... or is supposed to do? #ad

I didn't get that option. Maybe it turns on the Halo light (joking). Have you followed the wires from the switch?

That's good "Big D" #ad
Only someone who remembered all those posts about the "light-that-never-was" would understand eh? You've given me an idea though... When I pull the dashpanel cover... if the switch isn't hooked up to anything... maybe I'll wire it to the halo! That way I'll have 2 more things to fiddle with while I drive #ad

On aftermarket alarms, an override button like that operates the following way: If you lose your key fob, you can unlock the door with the key (setting off the alarm), then stick the key in the ignition (which should be cut off by the alarm being triggered) then as you turn the ignition, you hit the red button to override the alarm. The alarm turns off and you can start the truck. Try it?

Although now that I think about it, I read in the manual that if you use the key to unlock the door while the alarm is armed, the alarm will be turned off... Anyway, it's worth a try... Maybe leave a window open, arm the alarm and then reach in with your hand to open the door to set it off... . ?

I guess this is the true "Mystery Switch", huh? #ad

Maybe your truck came pre-wired for that option. #ad

I think that is the button that engages the Jet Assist Takeoff, if your truck came with the option. I ordered it, but aparently it was restricted at the time of build, so I was out of luck.

=========================================
Wasn't that a great way to take delivery. Did the same with my truck January 28th.

They didn't even take time to slap the dealership advertisement sticker on the rear, or the license plate on front.

They half-a$$ checked the fluid levels and I took it for a test drive - about 2 hours - brought it back and signed the papers about 9:00 o'clock at night.

Did a 15 minute check out with final delivery man on Monday morning.

I didn't even let them really clean it up. They removed some of the plastic protective covering and I was on my way.

I do think they removed the "red button". I haven't found it yet!

Gee, by the time I got to the dealer to take delivery, it already had been driven to the next town to fuel it, had been driven around the parking lot in a circle with the salesman and manager 10-20 times, supposedly to set the compass. Of course, the dealership handles 3 major brands of cars (small town). They sell General Motors products(I think just Chevrolet line, Ford Motor products(all lines), as well as all Chrysler lines,(but not Daemler lines). Guess they just wanted to show off the DC pickup!
As to that little red button, weell... my vote was for the alarm override, oh-well. Maybe it shuts off the video camera... There aren't any bridges in town you just can't seem to cross, are there?

I think thats the button that destroys the morons that feel the need to pass when you are towing any kind of a trailer, even if you are doing the speed limit or better. the trailer must be pluged in to activate it though. #ad

Maybe it's a button to reset the ECM and erase the fault codes you've set by getting a few "check engine" lights from your BOMBing mods, thereby preserving your warranty... . well, it's late, I must be dreaming... .
