Injectors installed!

Wanna watch? Maybe you'll see me throw a wrench or something! Just still images every minute or so, no sound.

I'm installing my 275 injectors tonight. I'm guessing 3 hours since I'm a newbie at this and I am going to be careful and not rush it.

*edit* They're done!

so far so good..

I'm taking a break. . got the new inj in, clamps on, 19mm line nuts on, just gotta torque the lines and clamps down then put on the valve cover etc.

:D

Good deal!

Hey Chris, thanks for documenting this. I'm looking to make this my next upgrade and must admit to a little trepidation about the job. Let us know your driving impressions too.

I think maybe the garage cam didn't work out so good:(

Yeah the garage cam lighting sux, and there is no zoom lens.

The digital pics are very good quality high resolution though.

Fire in the HOLE in 10 minutes. :p

Then gotta test drive and clean up the tools!

Cycle that lift pump about 4-5 times... hold the pedal down... and dont be afraid to crank continuously for 15-20 seconds. It will light off and sound like an oil burning hammer mill for a few seconds then smooth right out. I like this live stuff. Kinda good to know there is someone "watching" over your shoulder.

Well there is a definite improvement in power with the Edge off.

I have an early Edge Products "3 light" fueling module and brass adjustable boost elbow. Also EGT and Boost gauges.

The stock clutch is gonna live on. No hint of slippage. That's different in the winter though, since the cold dense air makes more power and I can slip the clutch on level 3 when it's cold out.

Tonight it was muggy and 88F. I did three runs with the G Tech.

Best was a 7. 5 0 to 60 with a couple 7. 75s. Remember I'm shifting an NV4500, not an automatic here. Takes a bit to get goin!

With the box off, there is a little more oomf but not much.

Level 1 is now what level 2 used to be, and level 3 rocks! EGTs used to peak at 1,200 or so. Tonight I was able to hit 1,400 easy.

Boost is about 2 more PSI, solid 30-31. Can't say how much smoke since it was dark out but I'll make a note of it tomorrow.

Easy installation. No problems whatsoever. I followed the instructions which are great to have. I did not have access to an inch-pound torque wrench so I just did it by hand. I know 89 inch lbs is not much. Basically snugged the inj hold down bolts.

I did drop one of the bolts for the cyl head bracket and I found it on top of the starter about 20 minutes later. Overall it took me about 3 hours. I got off to a late start, about 7:30PM is when I turned the first wrench and finished at 10PM.

Ncostello you were right on about the startup procedure. The instructions basically said the same thing.

I cranked it 3 seconds, let the lift pump run. . did that about 5 times. Lift pump would run for about 30 seconds. . I was checking for leaks at that time (engine off) but none found so I did that a couple more times. Then 1/2 throttle, cranked it 8 seconds and it fired up with a lopey idle for a few seconds, 10 or so, then smoothed out. Again checked for leaks, none found.

Thanks for watching the show! Hope you enjoyed it! :)

*edit* my previous best 0 to 60 was 8. 5 with stock injectors and the Edge on level 3...

Best 1/4 mile at Rockingham NC test N tune last summer was 16. 2@86. Stock is 18. 9@73.

Chris, thanks for the pictures. These really help. I plan on installing injectors within the next week. I have a couple of questions. Did you have to replace any of the gaskets? Next, what kind of wrench did you use to loosen and tighten the fuel lines (regular 19mm wrench, 19 mm crowfoot wrench or a 19 mm flare nut wrench - either regular or crowfoot)? I just want to make sure I have the correct tools.

Thanks!

I reused the valve cover gasket and the intake gasket.

For the 19mm wrench I used a regular combination wrench, open end. Bop the wrench with a rubber mallet on the ones you can get to just to get them broke loose. Use a tight fitting wrench not an old loose wore out one because they are tight! ;)

Also check the intake manifold top plate bolts to make sure they are snug. Mine needed just a little snugging up.

Definitely make sure you put a rag in the intake manifold hole right after to take off the heater grid and intake. I dropped a bolt and it landed right on the rag! Would have gone right in.

Good luck!

It's not hard to do!

I was under the impression that the torque of the injectors was absolutely critical. I hope you dont have any trouble in there. You could always take the valve cover off to double check later on.

I've been looking for an inch-lb torque wrench but not even Sears stocks them. I don't want to spend a lot of $$ or I'd have one by now from the Mac Tools or Snap-On guy.

Anyone else know if the injector hold down bolts are that critical?

The added power feels great! I can only imagine what it would be like with DD1s or IIs. :D

I got mine at Sears for like $69. 99. Click adjustable break-away type. I think it goes from 0 to 250 in-lbs. It is also graduated in N-m... which makes it good because alot of torques list N-m first.
