I've been running BFG TA's 285 in a range "D" and have been very pleased with the tires in every aspect. However now they offer the same tire in a range "E" for just a little more money. I'm sure I'll opt for these next time but was just wondering if there's any negatives associated with "E" tires like stiffer ride, etc. THanks.

That extra ply in the sidewall is worth it for sway if loaded. I would never use a "D" tire on a 3/4 ton truck

The truck comes with and requires "E" rated tires, look at the vehicle plaquard on the door jam. I had a tire store tell me if it comes with an "E" thats what they have to put back, or higher.

Iv'e seen my friends buy tires and most all have put on "D" s pretty sad that customer isn't educated by the tire man

I'm with Warmwater. My D rated tires are rated at higher load rating than The factory E's they replaced, and they ride a lot better. No problems . The D and E rating is archaic, they will be getting away from that in next few years. I could have factory E's, they would ride worse and have less load capacity.
