Darn gemlins are taking up residence under the hood again. Everything was fine the first things this morning then an hour later nothing in the odometer and gear position display. Not just those displays either, everi light that is usually on on start up is not reponding including blinkers and high beam. The only light that come on with a cluster test is the red one in the lower right hand corner which I think is the security notification which is not on this truck.

Every function the is shown still works. Cruise, TH, CEL, etc, but won't display. All the normal things like batteries, cables, grounds, etc, have already been done. Bus connector on the firewall cleaned and reset. ECU rebooted. Truck runs and starts fine and all the peripheral things still work. Smarty shows no codes and will show a code that should used to generate a CEL.

Any similar symptoms and solutions out there?

This morning the lights came on at startup and it all looked good. Couple of minutes later it is all blank again and when backing out of the driveway the air bag light flickered a couple times.

Time to stick my paw up in there and see what bites me. Between the wolf rat and mud dauber problems we have, I would not surpsied at what is living under the dash. :)

Think it's the cluster? those 05's are known for cold solder joints. Don't know what those things are you are talking about but sounds like they belong in D. C.

Was driving it today and hit a bump, magically all the displays came back on and stayed for an hour or so until the truck was parked for a while. Could be a problem in the cluster with a solder joint for the power to the lighting circuit, or, could be a bad connection somewhere. Not sure how all that is grounded and fed yet, still digging thru wiring diagrams. Hate to drop $500 on a cluster and it just be a loose wire in a connector but may have to just to remove the cluster as the source.

Wolf rats are giant sized field mice, thats what they look like to me anyway. Shot one off the roof of my house a couple weeks ago. The sucker climbed the chimney looking for a way into the attic to nest. Several of them got into the neighbors garage and crawled up in the under carriage of his MB SUV to nest in the wiring. One day the auto leveling air ride suspension was constantly cycling the suspension up and down and would not quit. A shade over $2k later he was putting out traps and poison to keep them out of his garage. Mud daubers ar e those nasty little mud nest building wasps that will building a nest anywhere. One day and they will have mud piles under the hood or the bottom side of the body in places. Yes, I have run them out from under the dash at times when they got inside the cab. That buzzing behind the dash is not always OE equipment.

Scored a used cluster on Ebay for 1/2 price, mileage is even close. I can live with that unless I decide to get it programmed. All the display functionality is working again and the cluster has no codes on self test, must have broke the circuit for the lighting on the board. On to the next thing that doesn't perform like I think it should. :)
