Hi there folks ,
once a proud owner of a 12 valve 5 speed now gone ,but never forgotten.
I am returning to this forum once again.
Can't seem to locate my exhaust brake?. Of course up here (eastern Canada )we're at minus -24 c so looking
for it in under the hood I don't stay out too long.
By the way the truck is a 2012 2500 6.7 liter, do all of these truck come with a exhaust brake?.
I do have the button indicator but when I press it, I don't seem to hear rumbling. I had tried a 2016
(couldn't afford it , but of course I don't have to feed mine the extra urea stuff) when I pressed the button even unloaded we could hear the brake.
Thank you for time.
Jim

You won't find it physically because it is integrated into the Turbo, to my knowledge all 6.7 have it from factory.
The VGT Vanes close the exhaust.

If you have a stock turbo it is integrated in turbo. The on off switch just enables the functioning but doesn't actually engage it. The ECU commands it on.

With the button on, go for a drive up to 40mph or faster, let fully off the skinny pedal and you should hear/feel it engage.

It is actually RPM dependent any engine RPM's lower than 1100 the exhaust brake will not actuate. If you are stationary and in park with your foot off the brake pedal you can actuate the exhaust brake. What you need to do is turn on the switch that will enable the brake first. You will than turn on the cruise control, the next step is to push the set button on the cruise control. The engine RPM's will jump to 1100 and the exhaust brake will be actuated. You can raise the engine RPM's by pushing the accelerate button for the cruise control to a high of 1500 RPM'S. When you step on the brake pedal or turn off the cruise control the exhaust function of the siding vane will return to normal operation. The engine RPM'S will drop to your normal trucks range so, you can engage the transmission to drive.

I lock out 5/6 gear in town so to enable the exhaust braking function when slowing down since I will be above 1100 RPM'S. Once I drop below 1100 RPM's my exhaust brake will not be activated again until I am above 1100 RPM's. At least this is the way my 2008 truck works. My son's 2013.5 works very similar to my truck also. Except he has remote start and the truck has been programed to turn on the exhaust brake and the cruise control function to 1100 RPM's, for the exhaust brake to start immediately. This is so, the truck will be slightly warmed up by the time he gets there.
