I believe most mount it in front of the tank on the inside of the frame. I have a shortbed and not as much room as your longbed, but I mounted my Carter 4601HP in this location. The hard-lines on my shortbed actually bypassed the pump location so I ended up using new hose from the tank to the pump inlet and bypassing the stock hard-line completely. You may not have that problem on your longbed if you mount the pump where the hard-line transitions to the rubber fuel hose.

Others with a longbed can probably confirm/deny.

thanks steve , i'm going to look at that position. i also wonder if i should wire into the lp wire. i don't want the pump running all the time that the key is on . thanks again jim

There are several vendors that sell a LP wire harness that taps into your factory connection. Typically you don't want it to run while starting, too much pressure can cause a hard start condition. Alternatively, an on/off switch to turn the pump on after starting will also work.

say rnr i would like to get in touch with any of the supplier's that have the wire harness. that would be great. any help would be appriciated. jim

Where to buy a LP wire harness???

Hey Jim,

Where abouts are you located? Are you adding the Holly as a 2nd pump or replacing the factory pump? The difference is between a LP harness extension or a "Y" cable. Also, are you planning on replacing any of the lines or fittings? Last question, are you capable of building your own harness given a parts list or do you prefer to buy a harness?

Just FYI... I used the extra pigtail that came with a previous replacement LP from Cummins and spliced into it a 4-5 foot extension of 14 gauge wire. Then I plugged it into the OEM connector on the engine and routed it back to the new pump.

hay rnr . i live in yreka ca and i 'm using the holley in conjunction with the stock pump ,i can make up my 0wn harness . what would i wire into and would i need to use a relay to power the new pump . ??? is there a place in the fuse box under the hood. ?? i also think that i will at this time use the stock fuel lines and mount it in front of the fuel tank the engine has a edge ez , 4" exhaust and aftermarked intake filter. i pull a 18,000 lb 5r. 5 speed of course. thanks again jim

You got it, tap into the signal wire in the factory LP wire harness, use it to trigger a relay which will then power the aux LP. Essentially the aux pump only runs when the factory pump does. This also does not over tax the factory circuit.

Olee Poole makes a harness to sell with his kits, he might sell you just the harness.

I have also read several posts stating that Practical Solutions made them a custom wire harness.

Otherwise, I am yet to find anything that Bob Wagner can't source.

For DYI, you might send TDR member AKMAC a PM, he might be able to help you out with the wiring detail.

Actually I was hoping that somebody more knowledgable and/or a vendor would jump in by now and bail me out :-laf

Hope some of this helps... .

I used the extra wiring harness that comes with the OEM lift pump. You can buy it separately at cummins, cost about ten bucks. Just solder a wire to the harness, run the wire to a relay, then plug the harness in between the lift pump and existing wiring. Much easier to get to than trying to tie into the existing wiring. The part number is 4025182.

Good Luck
