I have a 2001 3500 and want to install a new brake controller. The wires on my current unit go to a box above the parking brake that is rectangular in shape with a bolt in the center of it.

Is the socket under the cover?? Due to back surgery, it is very hard for me to determine exactly where the wires go.

By the way my truck did come with the tow package... any help would be greatly appreciated!

I believe the trailer connection is slightly higher that the white cover and is blue in color. The blue connector is next to or attached to the housing that the white housing. I remember having fun trying to plug in the brake controller and it's possible the connector plugs in from the top. It was not as easy as hooking up to my previous truck(96 Dodge ram). .

George is right, if you have the factory wire loom. It's even the same up to '06, maybe later. I've installed hundreds of them, and they should be clipped onto the same metal post that the main wire loom you see, on the '02 and earlier models.

Thanks For the Information

Thank you for your info... . I'll try to get my son over this week and see if we can find it. Had a total lumbar laminectamy 3 weeks ago... . for some reason the Drs. don't want me to do any bending... . guess their afraid the sutures and glue won't hold :-laf

Thanks again guys!

Found Brake Control Socket but......

Ok... found the plug, now... . how do you disconnect the darn thing?? It looks like a white plug with a blue band around it with what looks like clips on top. The connector locks into the plug somehow... . I just can't get in there to see it. Has anyone ever disconnected one of these???

The things I do when I'm bored. Here's a picture of the connector for the controller I haven't installed yet:
#ad

Press the button and pull. It's very secure, very stiff and a PITA to pull apart.

Glad you were bored....

RoadDog... . I sure am glad you were bored!

After looking at your picture and explanation I determined that I was trying to pry up... not push down. Even after I new what I was supposed to do..... messed with it for 15 minutes... could not get it apart. Gave up. . went in and got a cup of coffee... went back out and tried again... came right apart!

Guess I wasn't holding my mouth right the first time!

Thanks again for your help!
