I don't understand the purpose of the lock up feature on my 2004. 5 3500.

I had a Banks exhaust brake and smart lock on my 2001. It locked up when thje brake was turned on and stayed locked up down to 25 mph.

This new truck locks up at about 47mph then unlocks again when you pass through 47mph when slowing down.

I thought the whole idea was to keep the transmission locked up and to keep fluids flowing while slowing and keep the rpms up to help in slowing down.

I could be totally wrong in my thinking.

Can somebody explain this to a simple guy???

Your trans seems to be doing what it is expected to do, down shift. If your truck was traveling in 4th gear at 10 MPH locked up it would hardly be turning any fluid. I think you're in good shape as far as the trans goes.

2003 slt 3500 4x4 305/555 48re :D
