Are Dodges back?

I have not locked my keys in my truck since I was sixteen! I felt like a dog with my tail between my legs! I had to call D/C to unlock my truck (felt like that guy on TV who does the onstar commercial) #ad
.

Soo, 30 minuites later a generation x guy drives up (snickers at me) and jimmies the lock and 2 minuites later, I have my keys in hand.

I just wanted to know if anyone else has done this with their new truck!

Yep, my '96 had an alarm system that automatically locked the doors 30 seconds after they shut. We were on a road trip, my buddy was driving - pulled in for fuel and he goes to the pump, I go to the head. I come back and the truck is locked. He had left the keys on the seat just like he did in his '86 Chevy - I never even thought to mention the alarm #ad

I think it took AAA 30 seconds to slim jim the lock... .

Frank, don't feel so bad, I've done the same. In another life I was a young hotshot district manager at his first post. One hot day in August the company VP and local State Senator were in my town, lunch was on me.

Everything goes great, good food, some small talk, Senator is telling VP what an asset to the company and community I am. Life is good.

I go take care of the bill, decide to start the car and let the AC work (it's about 110F). NO KEYS, I can see them in the ignition of the locked car. Call secetary, tell her to DROP WHATEVER SHE'S DOING, GET THE EXTRA KEYS OUT OF MY DESK AND HAUL A TO THE RESTURANT. She gets there about three minutes later, I prostrate myself on the ground and offer thanks, start the car, go inside and ask "Are youse guys ready". They never knew.

Since that black day back in 88, I've kept a extra key in my wallet. It's come in handy a few times since then.

ftb87, a friend of mine told me one time, after I got his keys out of his locked Ford pickup and he had taken a lot of ribbing from those present, "Smitty, there are two kinds of people, those who have locked their keys in their vehicle and those who lie about it". bg

Yep... I did it a couple weeks after I got my truck. But I have a viable excuse. A couple days before I had an aftermarket Keyless entry system installed on my truck. Not paying attention to the way that the guy programmed it. He programmed it in such a way that after you put the key in the ignition, 10 seconds later the doors would automatically lock.

So I was at work, getting ready to leave. I started the truck to get her warming up and I got out to throw a soda can away... to come back to the truck and notice that my keyless entry system locked my doors. Boy was I pi$$ed off . Thank god I knew how to get in my truck... being started. I stuck a coat hanger in through the top of the door through the weather stripping and pulled down on the power window button. Whoola... . got my keys.

I found that if I ground ½" off the fat end of the key it will fit inside the trailer light jack, the lid keeps it in. Only used it once in five years, but living in the boonies as I do I rarely lock the doors, let alone take the key out of the ignition.

I have a real bad case of CRS so I have learned to take precautions. I have an extra key in my wallet to get me in when I lock myself out. Saved me embarrasment lots of times. So far I haven't managed to lock my wallet in the truck the same time as my keys. #ad

We have an 86 Ford Bronco 4x4 that doesn't have remote(probably before remote locks were invented)and I don't drive it very often. I'm used to driving the Dodge with factory remote locks. Yes, I'm on a first name basis with the local locksmith who works for Good Sam ERS.

I used to lock my keys in about 3 times a week on average. Thats what that sliding rear window is for #ad

I worry about the magnetic boxes falling off (I am known not to take the smoothest way from point A to B). So I have a bolt and wingnut holding the key on hidden somewhere under the truck. I will not tell where, because I'm afraid some so-called friends might take advantage of it. But when installing it, look for places that cant be seen easily, but can be reached to hide it.

Last time I was locked out away from home (and a spare key) was on an indian reservation back aroud 1990. This was a reservation that was in a semi warring mode. (shot down some state police helo's the week before #ad
)
It was my Dad's K-car. No I wasnt driving! I told my little bro. to get a hanger from the "trading post". We were in the car in 15 seconds. We were VERY lucky. I know I'll never be able to do that again. #ad

I have a '99 and my doors will not lock with the key in the ignition. I can manually lock them but I always use the button. I thought this was a feature on all the trucks. I love it because I never have to worry about it.

20 years ago when I first got married the lil woman was always takin the keys out of the truck, that was the only vehicle we had at the time, well anyhoo after about the third fire call and no keys I decided to put super glue on key,yes it worked well and when I sold the truck it was still there

I was giving a guy a jump at home depot (he was backed into his parking spot). Got his truck started and went back to get in mine and-well, you know the rest of the story (had that parking aisle blocked for 20 min waiting on my wife!)

I haven't done it yet in the new truck. But many times in the past. So I have learned to hide a key underneath my truck. I just take some electrician's tape, find a junction somewhere and tape in a key. I completely wrap it up so it doesn't stand out. Just don't forget to put it back after you use it otherwise it won't do you any good. #ad

When My soon-to-be-wife and I first started dating in Columbia, MO, she locked me out of the car. I had gone over there for the evening, and she got something out of the car, and locked the doors. I grew up in the country, and never locked the car, and normally never took the keys out, except on campus and at night. Besides, it was an 89 Celebrity, and had a bad factory radio. She grew up in town with a mother who, if you look up paranoia in the dictionary, you will have her picture, with a "see also" to her three sisters. Anyway, she called the locksmith, from whom I found out, she had called to get her keys out of her Escort a few day earlier. I also locked the keys in my 86 F150 at a gas station. It had power locks, and I somehow hit the lock button as I got out. Rear slider never sealed up quite the same after that. Wonder why.
