Do you tow heavy with a 2500 ?

I'm here in Texas working contract and had a few hours to work on a small project last sunday. I must have gone in and out of my Airstream (99 25' Safari) a dozen times that that afternoon, just to excape the heat and cool off, when I steped out and let the door close lightly by it's self and found my self Lock OUT!. Irate doesn't begin to tell you how I felt. It's 4pm on a sunday afternoon and I'm locked out with just my truck keys. I did have have the keys to my tool box so I grabbed a hammer and let the window next to the door have it. I figured it would be cheeper to have the window replaced than to call a locksmith. My guess is that the repeated closing of the door moved the locking lever forward enough to lock the door. Airstream doors have to close with a fast motion because of the interfearance fit of the door to frame. So slaming the door (lightly) is the thing to do. I don't know if this is peculiar to Airstream or the brand of door hardware used. Has any one had this haven to them? I don't leave my Airstream with a full set of keys now!

Steve: My brother has the same Airstream and travels with 3 cats. He has the power lock option for the door with a switch on a console next to the drivers seat. Yup. You guessed it. While setting up at a park out west a few years ago one of the cats stepped on the switch and locked him out! Next bad thing was that the engine and generator were running. Lucky for him that his wife had a key cause those cats were about to drive off . . He later made a tupperware type cover for all the console switches.

Locked out

I haven't been locked out but I got locked in last Wednesday. My son and I were at the lake and had just come in from fishing, had a couple to clean, I went into the trailer while he was cleaning the fish, when he came to open the door the handle worked but door didn't open. The inside handle fell to the down position. I had to take the lock apart from inside the trailer to get the door open, the plunger or bolt on the lock had broken off anf the spring caused it to stay in the closed position. I guess this is the end result of having to close the door hard as described above. bg
