i dont know much about this subject, but i would like to purchase a locking differential for my D70 rear end to help me launch when drag racing. does anyone recomend a certain brand or type or recomend against this, because spinning one tire just isnt cool

D70's are one of the harder diffs to get lockers for. I think the air locker is the only one. I dont believe detroit makes one which is what I would want. I think you can find factory posi's and that might be your best bet. I would think an ARB would be to delicate for that application. But I have seen them beat on pretty good too and they hold up.

I have a D70 I'm working on to put in my landcruiser, I just decided to weld it and be done. It's gets towed now any way.

Jeff bought one for a new pro street truck he's building. The truck has a Dana 70 open diff. I find out what he got today and post tonight.

You can get a detroit for a 70. In 23 spline, 32 spline and 35 spline.

You can get a Pow'r lock also.

And an ARB.

I would go with the detroit for simplicity, durability and cost.

Just put a detroit locker in my truck to day, Had one in a older truck and loved it. Now Im ready to go hunting.

Detroits rock, no doubt! I run a factory LS in the rear of my 93, and it has NEVER spun one tire, even around corners. It will hold almost as hard as a detroit, until you get one tire really light. For what you are doing either will work, and the LS will be smoother.

I ran a detroit in the rear of my fun truck until I could no longer keep axel shafts in it, and upgraded rear diff. Did not have a detroit for it, so I welded it. I really dislike this, eventually it will be replaced with a detroit.

what type of limited slip do these trucks have from the factory, would it be worth it just picking one up at the junkyard. thanks for the replies

JKouzez,

The best way to tell what you have is pulling the cover. My tag said it had a Power Lock rear. It must have been replaced. I talked to Randys Ring & Pinion for a quick quote. They said the power lock is one of the best multi-functional rear ends for the street. The strip is different.

The power lock is the chaepest.

The Locker is next.

The arb is the most expensive.

Your choice.

Good Luck,

WAYNES WORLD

PS,

How do you like the 370's & 191 delivery valves? Those are on my xmas list this year.

Just put a Detroit Locker in mine. I haven't driven it any distance yet but from what I understand they are great in the winter. Just gotta get my ox-lock for the front now. Oo.
