So, I noticed my drivers hub was locked. Thought it odd as I didn't lock it but thought maybe unattended parking lot or someone at work messing with me....

So I unlocked.

Drove 4 hours. During the last hour I could hear a ticking from my front drivers hub. When I got back I looked at the hub: locked.

So it must have enough friction it is locking itself and the sound is the teeth slowly catching itself and locking.

Thoughts? Anyone have an issue similar to this before?

That's the first time I have heard of this type problem. Most of the complaints are it won't lock in. I haven't been into a set of the selecto hubs your year range uses.

Take off the hub and inspet it closely. From about 25 years ago, I remember that the Selectro (=Dualmatic) hub has a brass sleeve/bushing inside that can wear and also get pushed out of position. Back then, Mile Marker carried them and parts for them.

Follow up.

I did dig into the hub and it appear the lock ring on the end of the axle shaft popped off. Not sure why as I was last in there 4 years ago but....

Will monitor.

Mark it up to crap happens, now we know. I've had the E-clips come out of a drive shaft u-joints already so it is believable.
