I'm sure this topic has been around the block many times but I'm not having much luck with my search skills.

I'd like to put locking hubs on my 04. What products have you used and what are your recommendations. I've found Dynotrac & EMS on the web. Are there other manufactures?

Thanks,

Dave

Thanks John,

Does anyone know of any other manufacturers out there?

How about results? Can anyone fill me in on quality, easy of installation of either the EMS or Dynatrac?

Thanks,
Dave

I've had the DYNATRAC system for about 18 months with no probs. Truck drives much better. Paid local shop to install and they were impressed with quality of the parts. Studs are a tad too long and won't let the center cap go all the way in. Thought they rusted kind of quick too. Easy to lock/unlock when needed. Helped mpg by 1 - 1. 5. Would do it again.

Sorry to hear about your loss. My respect and thanks go out to all our brothers and sisters in harms way.

Thanks for the pictures. I talked w/EMS this morning. They're back ordered for 6 weeks.

What helped you decide on the EMS over the Dynatrac? There appears to be quite a price difference. Is there much difference in the quality between the two?

thanks,
Dave

i didnt like how the ems spindle attached to the knuckle i think the dynatrac is a safer way and the quality is top notch and the customer service is awesome!!! easy to follow directions and you didnt have to fab shim rig or beat anything just bolt it together step by step.

Just curious, what is the difference? I thought they both (to use a wheel rim analogy) are hubcentric where the load is on the part that fits into the steering knuckle and the bolts just hold the spindle to the knuckle. Is the EMS kit different somehow?

the dynatrac bolts up just like the oem the ems has bolts and nuts that run through the knuckle and spindle.

Do both brand spindles have a large portion that sits inside the knuckle bore (just like the stock bearing)?

I would hope they both do. It wouldn't be advisable to carry the entire front end load in pure shear on 4 bolts.

Ryan,

I'm only familiar with the Dynatrac, and they fit inside the knuckle very much like the stock bearings. BTW, after reading your hub removal experience, I used a liberal amount of anti-sieze when I installed the new hubs.

I am debating getting hubs and paying $400 to $600 more for the Dynatrac kit is a lot. Iirc the GM, Jeep and Dana axles I have worked on in the past all had nuts holding the spindle on.

So I do not understand why the Dyantrac way is necessarily safer or better.

Could you explain?

Is there anything else that about the Dynatrac kit that makes it better than EMS kit and worth the extra dough?

Humm... the Dynatrac kit may be good, but they don't respond to email inquires for their product:rolleyes: Why bother with having a customer email addy if your not going to respond??? That is not awesome customer service in my book. Besides, normally customer service only gets worse after a company gets your money!

EMS responded and is less expensive. . and without an explanation why Dynatrac is better, looks like EMS gets the sale!
