Help with 48re trans diagnosis

I've been looking at installing locking hubs on my truck. I want the 2 Lo (as you guys call it) option.

I'm thinking of this product, any comments?

I'd also like to keep my stock wheel cover's any ideas on how I can accomplish that? ….. aftermarket center covers?

As always, Thanks Guys

Water jet is the only way I figured out to cut a hole into the chromed center cap. On the lathe it didn't work, shattered the whole thing into thousand pieces.

There are non chromed center caps where a hole saw will work just fine.

hey ozy , i too installed the spintech hubs,, used the factory covers,,, cut hole in them with my grissely metal lath,,,, used 4 jaw chuck,, just have to cut reeeal slow &easy.

p.s. also when i got my hub ,, i drove over to ohio a d picked them up,,,,paid 1450 for them,,,, my how times change,,, also how do i add my truck info at the bottom?????

I had the local machine shop cut the centers out of my factory center caps on a lathe when I put Yukons on my 05.

I wonder how they made that. We weren't able to hold the cap good enough to cut through the chrome layer. And when we finally did it bite into the underlying plastic and ripped it into pieces, shrapnel flying through the whole workshop.

Not sure, but that’s how they cut it. I still have a center piece around here somewhere.

Thanks guys for replying to my inquiry ..... so it looks like there is no off the shelf answer for the center covers, bummer =(

BTW, I did search the threads before I posted this thread ..... as I always do .... pardon me!! ..... SMH

I did mine with a hole saw as suggested . Somewhere I had read to use a ford hub cap they will work . But never tried on after drilling mine . If you try one please keep me posted if it works , thanks

These went on back in 2013 which is when these pictures were taken, but I cut the center caps myself with a new hole saw. They look better in person than in the picture. IIRC, I found the center, drilled the pilot from the back, then started the hole saw on the front using the pilot of course, after about halfway through the plastic I finished the hole with the hole saw from the back- if that makes any sense.

I'll post as I go forward on this matter. The water jet idea sounds pretty interesting.
Sorry it's taken me forever to update my post on this subject matter. I ended up going with a Yukon Free Spin Hub package for my truck (05).

Yes, it was pricey but I wanted the best and after spending a fair amount of time researching free spin packages Yukon was the way to roll.

As you can see I ended up not having to modify the center cap as the Yukon package just doesn't protrude very far outside the wheel.

I can tell you that this mod was well worth the money. Having the two-low option pulling my big hauler is the ONLY way to roll ... =)
