Looking for the most viscious warning device on the railways? Then look no further...

Nathan Airchime's are the train horns that wreak fear in motorist world wide.

My good friend has one on his Kenworth and let me tell you, this is one bad a** horn!!

Call the Wabtec Corp at 1-800-621-3068 for more info on pricing. I think my friend paid around 5bills for them. I'm not sure what he told them his company did, but money talks and he was mounting his horns (on his truck) within the week.

Caution!!! These signal devices may cause sudden death in the elderly and will alter traffic patterns in front and behind you!!!

Beware! #ad

Yep they have been out a few yrs. Sounds just like AND as loud as a train. Just caution with use. The horns are an outlaw item. And you could be held lible in a court of law for causing a wreck. Not a Flame or slam, just a statement. You'll need a huge airtank and good air supply. But the first time you hear this, you'll know <BG> Mike

<font color=blue>Is there a website for this company? Or any other details available? Is it a triple horn? Currently looking at a Hadley "train horn" but having hard time getting a price, when I emailed Hadley they kinda beat around the bush.
Hadley Part no. H00998A, Anyone have these or know anything about them. Supposedly they are 3 times louder them "normal" air horns" Sounds like just what I need.

Just a funny story about the Locomotive air horns...

A friend's son got ahold of one (don't ask me how) and wanted to know how to hook it up. We rigged a hand valve, some hose, and a propane tank (full of compressed air or course) to the thing and boy what a bunch of fun. That sucker was really really loud. You had to wear ear plugs! It was loud outside, but indoors? look out! We never mounted it to a truck or anything but it sure was fun lettin' 'er rip in the office just to scare the daylights out of everyone.

<font color=blue>The Hadley's I was referring to are $398. 00 (from Hadley) not including the compressor or tank. Its a triple chrome plated horn set.

It is basically 3 x 130 decibels!?!?!

The tank (bout the size of a football) and compressor (150 psi) would be good for about 7 second blasts.

I think I found me a new toy.....

Kat, you can look under "wabtec corp" or run a search on "nathan airchime" and you will find thier web site. Sorry, I'm lame when it comes to sending attachments and this computer is as old as I am so I don't know if it can send links or not...

Give em' a call if you need the price. It might be nice to find out if they are any louder than the hadley's.

Steve.

Their website is still under construction.

Here is a marine horn for vessels over 656 feet.

My dad had an old triple train horn on his Mack. If he honked it more than a few seconds ,the maxi brakes locked up!!When I was trucking in the early 70's,I was screwing around one day and built two tone whistles out of 3/4" iron pipe and put them on my truck. They were as loud as train horns, but whistled instead. They would stop everyone on an interstate highway in no time!! I still have them in my tool box. Craig

Just got back from a trip to Alaska the easy way - up on a cruise ship and back in the air.

Don't know what horn they used but it sure as hell was LOUD. When we sailed out of Vancouver, a pontoon equiped single engine plane took off a little closer to the ship than the captain appreciated and he let him know about it. I don't know what color the pilots underwear was but we wouldn't have been suprised to see him spiral into the bay out of shear terror.

BTW next trip North I'm dreaming about a ground trip with the 5er with some time to see more than the inside of a motor coach.

I'm in over my head here, but I'm so fascinated and anxious for my Grovers to get here. Go to the airchime site and look carefully at that monster horn. (The one above in hemidart's post)

My guess is the motor is a one or two hp motor. I think those are 1/2 inch bolts holding the horn bell to the frame and the bell is two feet in diameter. Weighs 100 to 200 pounds. What do you guys think ?? #ad

I think if I install one of these train horns, I'll also install a bell, so I can roll through the intersections going "ding... ding... ding... ding... " #ad

Most states have noise abatement laws regarding stuff like horns. You could get to the point of being TOO LOUD. My Hadley is rated at 135db at 150 psi. The portable air tank I use is pressurized to only 125 psi and this horn is PLENTY LOUD. Grover or Hadley will provide you with all the warning sound you will ever need. You can easily hear it over a running brush chipper and chain saw wearing ear plugs.

<font color=blue>Well thats only if you get caught. Everyone has the "regular" Grover and Hadley's, I wanna be different. Least I can tell the officer I use my truck for work and I work for Union Pacific #ad

Andy -
Looking for a "sound" to put up here but so far I can only find rather "big" ones which I don't wanna use. Check your email tho.
