1 Million Miles on a Gasser

Bunchers and harvesters do some of the same things. They both grapple trees and cut them off at the bottom. They can cut a few different ways depending on attachments. Some have a circular saw on the bottom, some have a shear and some have a bar. Once cut, a buncher will stack trees to be to processed. A harvester is kind of an all-in-one machine. It will cut, process(de-limb) and stack. A swing machine is just like a track hoe. You can mount any attachment required for the job at hand.

Hope this helps a little.

Yes it does, thanks. I was looking at the different machines again and noticed that (what you said). I guess I should have just read into it more and looked at the pics more, haha.

Thanks!

So the riggin' slinger and the hook tender were out all night settin' the points so once the lowboy jockey figgered out how to navigate all 16 miles of what used to be a road now that the roto-tiller club got done makin' washboards out of the whole spur, we could get the tower set up and start yardin' sticks before lunch.

Well the crawler frame made it with the tube close behind--holy buckets they sent the big tube... all 110 feet of her..... dern landings are gettin' smaller every time we move, good thing Frenchy can back up blindfolded else we'd be FUBAR.

Well we strung out the strings, yanked the skyline across the canyon and dead-ended it at the D9 on the bottom of the A100 spur, blocked it and yarded the mainline across with the haywire.

Donkey puncher said 'that line's too steep we ain't gonna haul **** that way' but the woods boss knew everything from them books he read at the U Dub so he said 'Ah we'll just shoot the carriage up there... . '

So when we shot the carriage that ol' skyline was singin' like a banjo string... . for about the first 500 feet... then she popped... . thought we were up the creek but the puncher climbed down outta the cab o' that big ol' Skagit, walked over to the crummy, hauled out a splice kit dated 1968, hooked the haywire up and yarded the old skyline back up--thanks to the talkie-tooter he didn't have to climb down in the **** pot--guess he owes the choker setters lunch at Humdinger for that--threw that splice in and shot that haywire back across with the freshly repaired skyline in tow... . put that young whipper snapper in his place... marvelous I do tell ya.

So anyways we got 'er in gear and yardin' sticks... . thank god for that Hahn or else the chaser'd be workin' double OT whackin' limbs & buckin' butts... .

So we're bringin' up the big wood, we've got logs decks 1/4 mile down the road---Bubba's wife dern near would have to turn sideways to fit down to the shovel--man those new hi-walker Hitachi shovels with the Young long booms really can make some tall decks--and what does the truck boss send me first??

Three hayracks and four long loggers with pups... ... . :-{}

K if you understand that you're a born logger. :-laf

Cool poem :) Guess I am a born logger, cuz some of the terminology is from several era's. Donkey = remote power unit, Donkey Puncher = operator. The Skagit = selfcontained Yarder, tower, power, cab, and mobile unit. Hay rack = flatbed trailer w/log bunks, need forty acres to turn around, same with long logger and pup :) I would be mad at the truck boss too if I was the "Woods Boss" haha!

"NICK"

And a D9 seems a bit of an overkill on a logging operation. It's a tad bit big to easily move around. A stump works just as gound as a tie point and it doesn't cost anything to use.

Other than the D9, that story sounds like life around here before the "owl".

I wrote it purely for entertainment..... obviously a D9 is huge, and so is a 110' tower tube..... supposed to be funny... . BUT there are a few guys up here who used to punch roads in for Weyco with 8's and 9's... .

Anyways... ... . I live in the heart of 'owl' country... . born & raised... . lemme tell ya, it's depressing now, but I'll always remember the way it used to be.
