NEW OWNER OF 96 RAM HERE ,YOU HELPED ME OUT WITH MY HIGH MOUNTED STOP LAMP/ REAR SLIDER WATER LEAK NO THAT MY CARPET IS DRY AND MY INTERIOR SMELLS BETTER I NEED INFO ON A LONG CRANK TIME. I WOULD SAY 1 OUT OF EVERY 10 STARTS USUALLY WHEN COLD IT TAKES 2 OR 3 20 SECOND CRANK TIMES TO START ITS ALMOST LIKE THE FUEL SYSTEM LOOSES PRIME ANY INFO WOULD BE GREAT

Welcome to the TDR. Where is Windlake?
Anyway, 2-3 seconds doesn't sound like loosing prime. That can take several seconds and usually isn't affected by temps (at least mine wasn't).
I'm guessing that your idle is turned down, which is OK. (Set up a signiture) Try SLIGHTLY depressing the accelerator on your next cold start. It seems these engines need a little more fuel to get going in the cold. You will probably need to hold the pedal down to keep it going if it gets real cold and you don't plug in the block heater. Remember, there is no "choke" and no "cold idle" so this might just do it.

td, have you checked your fuel return line for wear. Once the line gets porous, it can take on air and the whole system can lose its prime. I'd first try to just rest my foot on the accelerator when I start it if I were you. It helps a bunch. Also, the BD Governor spring kit helps reduce crank time along with giving you a bunch of power. Keep us informed.
PS Extreme... he's saying 2-3 twenty second long cranks, not 2-3 seconds

td, I have a 95 that had that same problem. Turned out to be the return fuel line located "far, far away" ha, at the rear of the engine. Replaced both the supply and return lines at the same time. Hope this helps.
