I can finally say I wore out a KYB monotube shock absorber. I first used them on my '84 200SX, back in '84 or so.
After 190k miles on the shocks, I realized the truck's rocking was pounding my sore ribs (a tragic ladder-gave-way-I-fell-twelve-feet story). So I pulled the rear shocks. They were noticeably looser than the first set I put on the truck, but not drastically loose. Then I pulled the right front; its compression damping was probably more suitable for an old VW bug. Expansion damping was loose, too. It hadn't failed; it was just really loose. I haven't yet changed the L/F; that's tomorrow project.
I'm reinstalling the first set of GasAjust shocks I bought for the '98. They only have about 72k on them, from around '98 to '00; they'll be good for some years yet, considering I barely drive more'n 10k miles a year now.
And the copper-based anti-seize I used lo those many years ago was still evident and still doing its job.
The GasAjusts provide a nice ride. If you want a proper muscle-car ride, KYB's MonoMax shocks are probably the way to go. They're both long-life monotube designs.
