I know the weather is hotter here in the south lately, but the last three to four weeks I've experinced longer cool downs and a reduction of about . 75 to 1 mile per gallon on mileage.

I've changed the fuel filter, I'm using PowerSource additive and changed oil. Grabbing straws:confused:

Will hotter weather effect mileage this much. Basically it has gone from low to middle 80's to high 80's to mid 90's. I don't remember this happening before.

Mods not in my sig are; Edge Comp, set on 2/3, 4" turbo back exhaust that was installed in March, Triple disc converter.

I have noticed lately an increase in smoke at low end. This caused me to think a filter change. IF you read an earlier post this filter had about 15 to 17K on it and had separated in the cannister.

Except for the low end spool up drag and a slight increase in smoke all else seems ok.

Heading out towing two tractors in two weeks. Any trouble shooting ideas??

Thanks

The increase in smoke is caused from the hot wheather/ humidity. As far as cool down, are you turning off your A/C? If I don't shut it off, it just won't cool down. Also with the A/C runnin' most of the time, that will cause a drop in MPG.

Later, Rob

Ditto... What Rob. Cooker, and Dezlpwr said. I notice the same drop in MPG as you in the summertime. I always shut the air off about 1/8th mile from the house to shorten the cool down.

Thanks.

I thought it might be something else since the mods and the filter SNAFU!

I'll take your advise about the ac. It just surprised me that it would make such a difference.

Good info on the smoke.

Thanks again, I really appreciate it. Taking a vacation in two weeks and the dreaded what ifs were popping into my mind.

Cooldown

What everyone else said and if you will drive the last mile or two before you stop with the OD off the EGT will go down, also use the E- brake and put the transmission in neutral while cooling down, don't hold your foot on the brake while it is cooling down(hydraboost). bg

again,,, ditto what everyone else said...

but to add. .

when the air temp becomes hotter,

the density goes down(like higher altitude). .

resulting in less efficiency with due to a less dense /hotter aircharge. .

Cooler air. . higher air density, denser higher charge - besides cooler... easier to make HP.

If you're letting it cool down longer you're burning more fuel while adding no mileage, that would drop it some.
