Does anyone have information regarding rules (or rules of thumb) for maximum safe trailer length? There is plenty on weight capacity and tongue weight for our trucks but there seems to be little information regarding length.
I have a 2010 single rear wheel 2500 with Airlift bags in the rear. I am buying a new gooseneck car hauler. Longer is better (TWSS) but too long is not. I have seen many people pulling 36' - 40' gooseneck/5th wheel trailers with SRW trucks, but more than that seems to require a DRW. I am seeing a lot of nice 44' and 48' trailers but don't feel comfortable spending the money until I know if I can pull it.
Most of them weigh about 8,000 lbs and my load will be about 4,000, so I will be well under my truck's 14.5k towing capability. But what determines the safe trailer length?
Thanks.
