In 2 days I will be 3 weeks without my 04. 5. Waiting on a nv5600. Called the dealership and they say no ETA at all still. What is your longest you have been without your truck?????

You best hope the "3 weeks" doesn't turn out to be 3 months. I have a 5600 that needs rebuilt if you know anyone!

As I recall it was 28 days. Brought it in for fuel leak(at over-flow valve) and hard to start.

Dodge repalced all washers with copper ones (solved leak) still hard to start or wouldn't start for them. Sent it to Cummins they replaced the injector pump then it was sent to a diesel shop down the road they replaced the rubber hoses (return fuel line and supply line).

Finally got it back started fine until fuel return line got cracks in it about 5-to-6 years later.

Just an update..... 5 weeks tommorow with no hope of getting a new transmission anytime soon. DC still says they are on backorder. Whatever that means. They tell me no nv5600 in Canada or the USA. I would think that they are starting to pile up at the dealerships with that kind of turn around!

sounds to me like you are now treading in waters for a replacement vehicle. If that baby is under warranty, i would think they would have to full out replace it, as that is WAY past any acceptiable time frame for repair.

If you can get a buy out on it and a replacement vehicle, I think I would definately be searching.

I am supprised that they are not just replacing the NV5600 with the G56 unit anyway.

I had a Dodge D50 in the shop for 6 weeks once. Bad transmission. I asked why they couldn't go to the Mitsubishi dealer and get the parts. The numbers were different. What a load of carp!

Which is why I decided at the last minute to have the one I blew up a few months back redone instead of handing in for a core. With no intentions of getting rid of the 03 as of now, and seeing how hard they are to come by now, whats it going to be like in another 2 years when this one takes a dump again? Whats another $3k laying around the garage ? Donk, read my post (#2) above. :(

I've got a brand new NV-5600 (not rebuilt) sitting in my shop. I was going to swap it into my '97, but it looks like the '97 is going to get sold so I can complete my 4BT Jeep Wrangler project.

I wonder if a g56 is a real option. I should run that past the service manager and see if DC would go for it or if it is really going to be an option in the future. Kinda like the 24v lift pump!

I was using my 04. 5 as my main work truck for the last 2 years. Driving around 200 miles per day when I am on shift. So I would like it back..... but I am getting to drive the 98 12v for work! If I did not have the 98 I would either have a loaner 4wd from the dealership or I would be jumping up and down screamin 4 1/2 weeks ago! LOL I also wonder if this is a plot to get me to say screw it and trade it in on a new one. I don't think I would be able to get a new one... . right around the 115,000 km mark or 70,000 miles.

I wonder if they would go for getting a transmission from NAPC or someone like that. So you can get your truck back in a reasonable time. Some dealers would do this, but it is rare.

I believe the law states that the manufacture is required to provide replacement parts on anything they make for 5-7 years.

SwampDonkey, you are being abused and I would start taking legal action or at least have Dodge pay the interest on your monthly payment.

Hate to bring FoMoCo into the equation, but I read on a couple of Ford Diesel sites that FoMoCo actually made / reimbursed the owner the entire monthly payment if it was not fixed in 28--30 days or so (6. 0L nightmare).

Might be something you want to pursue.

Hope you get going soon !

My 02 was in the shop w/ a bad nv5600 last year after the day after Thanksgiving, and I got it back on Valentine's day this year. They replaced it, tore up the throw out bearing, (it still howls, dealer says it's turbo noise) cut the rear seal on the tailhousing, ect, ect. . Traded it for a 04 w/ an auto transmission. D/C really is screwing the pooch w/ this one... What does Dr. Z have to say about that?

I would see a lawyer also. Tell them to go on ebay and buy a trans. There was two of them there last week. Good luck!

I do not want a buy-back. I like my truck and I have quite a few accessories and add-ons to make it a custom work truck. Two way radio's, phones hard mounted, sirius sattelite, tool boxes, headache rack, box liner, running boards etc. Also just put in new brakes, axle u-joints, all new steering components, wheel alignment, tires etc. I put in my first call to customer service yesterday and will see if that has any results.
