I have a 95 Dodge 5. 9 12 valve, which I purchased a few months ago. I love the truck, great milage, the ride, etc. Most recently I had the KDP taken care of at a local dodge dealer who much to my surprise was not really familar with the KDP issue.

Anyhow, the truck has 147,000 miles on it. How many miles have some of you guys seen until you have had to change the Injector pump and/or the injectors? What are the signs that either/or are going bad?

I bought the truck from an elderly gentleman who purchased it new, also it has sat in his garage for about 8-9 years without being run much.

Generally by 150k miles injector pop pressures have dropped and you would benefit from removing the injectors and having them cleaned, pop-tested and adjusted to spec. Since guys so often upgrade injectors though few people remove their injectors just to check or clean. As for lifespan they can generally last 300-500,000 miles or more.

Generally the injection pump will last as long as the engine, however many hundreds of thousands of miles that ends up being. I had an injection shop bench my pump and go through at 386,000 miles, only needed a couple minor adjustments. It's not unusual for the guys who have gone over a million miles with their Dodge Cummins to do it on the original injection pump.

I replaced my original injectors at 570k. I never had them tested. They still worked fine, however so much fuel had been pumped through them that the holes had enlarged and I was losing mileage and creating unwanted smoke. I'm bumping 3/4 of a million with no work done on the IP except having the timing advanced.

A buddy has a '96 with over 350,000. Never had to touch the pump or injectors. He drives it hard off road everyday. The only mod is a throttle plate by the previous owner.
