Doing ball joints on left side of 1998 12v. Ordered OEM ball joints and when I opened the box, their marked FoMoCo. Must be a division of Chrysler. Why can't I swap the manual locking Ford hubs too????

I always had a hunch that Dana axles used multi OEM parts.
I am shocked that there’s genuine FoMoCo in a Mopar box. Then again, Mopar stock of this vintage probably got melted down in the DCX days.

Ford and Dodge both used a variation of Dana axle so its not out of the question that the OD measurements of a bj could possibly be the same on a spindle

You can replace everything from the ball joints out with parts from a 92-94 or 95-97 Ford F350. WAY better 2 piston brakes and you get freespin hubs. Since the u joint is also the same, you just mate the Dodge inner axle with Fords outer stub axle. I've had mine on for 7 or 8 years. Best upgrade ever.

I have gone through many configurations, so i have many parts. I will likely post a complete (or almost complete) Ford freespin setup on the classifieds in the near future.

Yes, I am looking for a rotted out F350 to do the conversion. Cheap parts are probably the only good thing about the rust belt. A friend has a fleet of that range F350s, we go back and forth all the time about which is better. It was a nice jab to ask for a 1-ton Ford front axle so I can covert my 3/4 ton Dodge......

I think Ram Man is doing just that using Ford front Hubs/ wheel bearing asy's for their conversion kit. HAd I known about them I'd have used them on my 2013. I think but i'm not 100% sure our Long Horn wheels will fit over the Ford hubs with out having to open up the center hole like I had to on mine to fit over the Spyntec hubs.

I dont don't think so because you have AAM Axles on your 2013.

Both Ford and Dodge were using Dana axles in that year. Those look like the ball joints that Dana supplied with the original axles. I'm not surprised that an occasional ball joint has a Ford name imprinted in the metal.

FYI, Dodge/Ram no longer sells this OEM ball joint. You can, however, get the OEM ball joints from a Dana parts supplier and the pricing is reasonable. Just be sure to identify which of the Dana axles that you have---Dana 44, 60, 70 or 80. It's not complicated to figure out.

The Dana product should provide the best fit into the original products over any aftermarket manufacturer. My OEM's went 261,000 miles and were still road worthy although showing signs of wear.
