Going to look at a 98 12v. It is a two wheel drive club cab. Plan on trading in my 92 1st gen. I owned a 24v in the past but what should I really look at hard before I make the purchase? The truck has 55k and looks cherry. I will have to do the kdp right away any other must do's? Does that year have an OBDII port or is it turn the key three times for codes?

Any info would be great.

Thanks in advance

I'd look over the normal stuff you would for any used truck. Pay particular attention to the condition of the front end. transmission, auto or manual? General undercarriage condition, rusty brake lines? 2WD should mean fewer areas to be critical of.

It is a standard. That will be the fifth gear nut kit at some point. Is it best to tackle that right off the bat or wait until it makes some noise. What about over filling the gear box?

And yes three turns of the key for CODES. mines a 95 and it has it. Unless the 98 was changed. to some other configuration.

The 5th gear issue will not make any noise. 5th will just all of a sudden be gone.

Could you post a picture of your codes displayed on the dash of your 95? Cause for the life of me I can't figure out how they do that with a mechanical odometer

You count the number of flashes, No number is shown. it flashes for the first number, a pause, more flashes for the second number. It does this a few times. So you can be sure of the number of flashes.

Then you refere to the code listed either in a repair manual or your TDR, but I don't remember which one it was published in.

Look real good around the rear wheels for rust.
The doors rust out too, but mine have been fine so far.
I'm @ 130K miles and my 5th gear has been fine. I dont tow much.
Were still on my original front end except for the track bar & steering box.
I added my own grease zerks long ago. :D

Called yesterday and I was too late! The truck sold for $14,950. I thought that was a little high for a 2wd. I really almost cried and had that lump in my throat. I will kick myself everyday until I find another one!

Anyone have a black or red sport model for sale?

I need to enter the sob story thread.
