Hello, i am looking to up grade from my 1st gen 2wd to a 2nd or maybe 3rd gen 4x4 truck. I know about the transmission issues of the 2nd gen, are there any issues with the third gen trucks?

But the main question; will the transfer case how up behind a cumings engine or is it the weaker link in the drive train? do the third gen use a different xfer case.

You hear most often about clutches and torque converters, then often the transmissions themselves. very rarely do you hear about transfer case problems. It seems to be pretty rare unless you really abuse them. I have had many clutch and transmission problems due to some poor work done by JD truck service in Blue Earth, MN. I wound up having to take them to court and I won, but still seem to be working bugs out. A new Con OFE from South Bend will hopefully be installed by the end of the week. It is sitting at the house at the moment. But as for your transfer case question If you have any concern at all just make sure you have the 241HD (I am fairly sure that is the right designation) and you should have nothing to worry about. Of course there is always the chance something can go wrong, but your odds should be well in your favor.
