Hey all you "pullers".

The Wife & I have found a New-Vision 32' 5er for sale for a pretty decent price. It seems to be a nicely built trailer.

We really like the features, & the layout. The only problem is, we havent seen any other ones around. Is this an off brand trailer, or is it just that we havent seen any? Its made by K-2. Never heard of them before.

Any comments? Should we stick with a Hitchhiker, Sunnybrook, Alfa, etc??

Any comments on the quality would be greatly appreciated, as we really like this thing, but its our first trailer purchase, and hate to make a big mistake.

Thanks again in advance.

Shortshift, well welcome to the world of fivers-- you'll like it, pulls better than TT's #ad
#ad
the boss(wife)and i just finished looking at new fivers this time last year, we looked at the new-visions didn't like the fit & finish, Sunnybrook, alfa, alpenlite, hitchhiker, king of the road, are all good brands, two recomendations
1) look for good fit and finish on the interior cabinets, storage- remember this is your vacation home make shure you and the boss can store all your stuff #ad

2) if your big like me check the butt wipe clearance, Don't reolize it too late #ad
(stop laughing)a friend found a floor plan he liked but no room in the can #ad

All right one more-
when you find a make and floorplan, don't be afraid to order a coach, we ordered one instead of taking the one on the lot, we got the options we wanted and it wasn't that much more-

Yea bubba,

I hear ya on the bw clearance!! Heehee.

Good points. This one did have a small can too. The bedroom, shower & kitchen area were pretty big though. I didnt think much of that bw factor, but yep, im a bug guy too so that is a very important thing!!

Tnx again.

Shortshift, that must be a west coast brand cause i have never heard of it either and i have had 5er's and suscribe to trailer life for over 15 years.
Some other good names not mentioned is travel supreme, carriage, holiday rambler, jayco used to be the best dollar for dollar!

I was doing some contract work in Houston last year. The guy next to me in the R. V. park bought a New Vision 5er. I had a Holiday Rambler Imperial 5er at the time and I liked his better. Since I was in the market for a new one, I went to see the dealer where he bought his and looked at their floor plans. Had they made one as large as I wanted (see signature), I would probably have bought one. Just remember one thing--no matter what you buy or how much you pay, you are going to have some initial problems with it.

I have built my Biz on selling late model Bank Repos at 50 cents on the dollar of what they sold for new. I just sold a 1998 5th for a fellow TDR member who had bought the unit new. He owed $15,000 more than what the coach brought. If you are determined to buy new, make sure it is a long term commitment.

Tho' with the size you are looking at, storage space *shouldn't* be a problem watch out for the tendency SOME makers have of creating an "open and airy" look by eliminating various overhead storage and closets. Look carefully for the places you intend to carry canned goods and other similar items - all those neat outside access compartments underneath the 5er are NO substitute for adequate INSIDE storage - unless you LIKE crawling under the rig in the dark, looking for a can of beans or a clean shirt... Also watch for the actual allowable weight for additional cargo for your particular rig - SOME outfits are already at rated load by the time you just add water and a handfull of groceries - leaving little room for other "treasures" you might want to take along or bring home...

Shortshift, I really like my Sunnybrook 24CKFS - great floorplan for a small trailer! I think it's about $35 to join rv.org and get their RV shakedown guide. If you want to save a LOT of time and check mfgr www sites go to rv.net, click on 'buyers guide' on the left side then click on 'rv mfgrs' on the left and you'll get a list of mfgrs. The blue names have sites - just click on the name. You can see the floorplans and specs. Jayco site has been under construction. Craig

A lot dpends on what y'all are going to do with it. My boss and I live are living in our for the next couple of years, so quality was a real big issue. We just bought a 36' triple slide Travel Supreme. The only thing, though, is the dealer I bought it from couldn't get the proper bed clearqance without reversing the axles on the trailer. Looks really tough. Pulls great too.

Happy RVing!

I really want to thank everyone for their helpful advice. I read it all a couple times.

So, heres the update.

It seems out of all the comments I've read on here & the RV sites, the most positive comments seem to be on the Sunnybrook line. Yes, there are a few others that are making their owners happy, (like Nash, hitchhikers, etc), but nothing like the sunnybrooks. Everywhere you go, theres a happy Sunnybrook owner.

So, yep, the 24' is a very nice unit for the size, and while I was wanting that one, the wife kept dragging me over to the 28rkds. If we can get the dealer to take our terms, it looks like we may be the proud owners of one also. It depends on the dealer now, as we made a pretty tough bargain for them, but they may go for it.

Update:

Got a Brand spankin' new Sunnybrook 28' fiver!! Darn this is a nice unit. We took it to Laughlin for thanksgiving, and everything works perfect. Just wanted to thank everyone again that posted their comments (some emailed). They were very helpful.

Gotta say, this Cummins is one bad a** motor too. Pulled it up the grades at any speed we wanted to go, and got 11. 5 mpg going, and 12 on the return trip. Tried to take it easier, but still couldn't resist going around 2 fords that were dying up the grades #ad
Very impressed. Very happy.
