I'm looking at a used second gen 2002 QC LB 6sp 54,000 miles and was hoping soemone could give me some ideas of things to look for in the problem department. The truck seems to drive and shift nice doesn't look like it has been abused. Any Ideas?

I would check the lift pump performance if I could, meaning the owner would let me under the hood with a pressure gauge (unless of course the truck already has a gauge in it).

The truck has about 54000 on it. It's never pulled anything very heavy only a three horse trailer. The current owner has lost the injection pump and the transfer pump about 3000 miles ago so they have been replaced under warranty last fall. Is there a place that a guy can just put a pressure guage in line and read the pressure or do you have to do a flow test to get an accurate idea. I'm thinking maybe a FAST is in the future!

Thanks

There are several threads on the poor fuel system design, tank canister, lp, filter heating the fuel, Vp failures. You basically have to get the VP to a 2004 manufacture date (I think) to get the tougher electronics board, and rebuild the fuel system to get the heat out of the fuel so it can cool the VP. Also heat soak after shutdown I think can be an issue (threads on that too). I think we are getting a handle on the fuel heat problem. Not sure how it will ultimately extend the VP44 life.

Don't forget to lube the fuel with an additive every tank (ie low sulfure fuel problem, but every diesel has this problem).

There are several threads on automatic transmission problems, but yours is a stick. Check manual transmission problems, I think there are some manual trannies that have a 5th gear problem, others can chime in here, may not apply to yours.

4x4's have the "death wobble" steering problem, but fixable. Your sig did not say if 4x4 or not.

The rest of it seems to run fairly well.

Just my . 02, not all inclusive.

Nope, the truck is an NV5600, according to the 1st post. No 5th gear nut issue.

If it helps, my truck was ordered to tow (see signature). I took delivery on August 15, 2001 - it's never been back to the dealer for anything. The only Dodge component that's failed has been a back-up light switch that I replaced myself. Still on the original lift pump (16+ PSIG at idle, 11-12 PSIG @ WOT with the DD2s) and VP44.
