Looking at used 2005

2005, 3500 SRW, 4wd, auto, crew cab, long bed, 192k. I sold my 01. Been looking for a gas truck 3/4 or 1 ton but can’t find a decent used one with crew cab and long bed. My dad has a well used 03 6 spd dually, so I somewhat know the issues with 3rd gens, he has not had many, especially with his maintenance schedule or lack of. Biggest thing I’m worried about is the auto. Appreciate any insight.

The trans. The injectors. The death wobble, the hvac doors. Aside from that it’s a fantastic truck.
I’d make sure it wasn’t really abused and over tuned.

My '05 treated me good. Ball joints went at very low miles, but otherwise great truck!

Anticipate having to spend money on the front end, you can upgrade the parts, and be trouble free for many many years. Doing the work yourself you can do it for $1000 in parts. Ball joints, complete steering, trac bar, wheel bearings, shocks.

Stay away from the auto, they are junk. G56 is tried and true.

Well got a nice 2003 6 spd. Front end is good. Ordered bunch of stuff for it gonna come in later this week. Can’t and haven’t been able since site changed to see mine or anyone else’s signature. Also, suggestions on what exhaust brake and where to buy? I’ve only experienced the Jacobs and liked it

I have one of each. The 48re in our old 04.5 has over 400K on it at this point on nothing but regular maintenance. Oh, and did I mention that it has spread salt and pushed a plow for the better part of the last 7 years.

Thanks for the kind comments, I’m glad I held out for a 6 spd I don’t think I would’ve been happy with an auto but my wife would have. So far I’ve replaced the headlights, put on bed rail caps and a new toolbox, pressure washed and cleaned engine bay and underneath. Took out the k and n filter out of stock air box and ordered mopar filter. Put a new bilstein steering damper on and have all four 5100s gonna go on this weekend. Fender flares, side steps, mudflaps, new stereo and tow mirrors will be this wknds project. Have tonneau cover coming in. Only thing I need to get are my Cummins floor mats from Genos I really liked in my 01 and a bed extender gate

And you got a NV5600 trans rather than the weak G56 - which is fine unless you add power. .
