looking for 5.7 Cummins interchange info

I wound up owning a 2005 pick up with a rod thru the block also the turbo and pump are missing. In an attempt to locate an entire motor I learned only 04-05 are listed as a drop in.

Checking further the factory shows the part number for a remaned long block assy, and it shows only fitting 04-05 yet if you pull the short block pn it fit’s 04-08 I guess it’s something in the head.

Can anyone give me more info what the differences would be with 06-08 and why they won't work should a complete engine be found.

Don't forget when you talk to the " factory" people they will only tell you what the EPA will allow them to. I've seen a 98 12 valve in an 03 for example but Dodge or Cummins won't admit it. It would be easiest and simplest if the replacement came from an 04. 5 or 05. Best bet is to talk to your local diesel hot rod shop as they have probably done this before. Shadrach

What's to prevent installing an entire 07-08 engine ? My guess is incompatabilty with the computer or physical like mounts, exhaust, accessories ?



already I can see the easy way is spend for an exact drop in and save then headaches.
