I have done a search and aware of the Kilby cover. Might be too heavy and is pricey. I have Geno's guard for the top and want something for the front that is not heavy. Somewhere I saw one that was attached with tape and had grommets for using plastic ties. I have read that some feel ordinary screen mesh is too restrictive for proper air circulation. Should I risk the mesh and make my own? At times this board has too much info to process:D Thanks

I've not had any overheating issues using my home-made window screen ballistic bug baffle. Mine is retained by two of the bolts on the upper radiator support.

Try it; if you're not comfortable with it, take it out. You'll only be out the cost of the fiberglass window screen.

I'm interested in something like this, but I'd also like it to be a bit more substantial than window screen. I need something that will keep my big feet out of the condenser when I step up on the bumper.

Do you have a link to the Kilby?

Thanks,

Bob

i made my own for my truck [pic's are in link in sig], only problem with it is the lousy paint job i did. i need to take it off and do a better paint job on it [i had spray painted it, i will this time brush paint it... ]

I found the other thread (with the Kilby link) and looked at yours. Nice job. I had something similar in mind, but I don't have access to a metal shop. Sure wish I did.

The Kilby unit looks good and the price isn't too bad. I'm not sure I like the idea of having to hang the condenser while removing all the mounting screws.

My personal opinion, the Kilby looks great but too heavy to hang on the front end. I guess I will make a window screen cover when the weather clears up. (2 days of snow now). Nick, my computer is acting up, too slow to load pictures, so I haven't looked at yours yet. Guess everyone is inside on the net. Been that way for 3 days, driving me nuts. I did see a one size fits all cover that had a heavier plastic frame and then window screen stretched tight to mount with double coated tape and wire ties. If I find it again, will send a pm or post it. Thanks for your ideas.

I have used a screen kit from Home Depot for 40K with no problems. It works great. Took some time to make. Keeps the bugs out and protected the fins.

Has anyone seen the one on page 13 of GENO'O catalog #43?

It's the MPC GRILLE GUARD. Price is only $23. 50

It's hard to tell much by the picture.

It appears to only cover the top of the condenser. I'd like to have something that covers the front, too.

I have the MPC grille guard. It covers the top, and goes down 4 or 5 inches of the front. I would recommend it to protect the top fins. I will be taking it off and painting it black when I decide on making my front screen. Cary-- Thanks for the tip on a Home Depot screen kit. I see Geno's is offering the grille guard in black now.

I found a GREAT one at the local ACE HARDWARE store.

It is intended to mount on the outside of a storm door or screen door to prevent dogs or cats or whatever from tearing up the screen. It is expanded metal (alum. I think) and has a frame around it. It is just the right size, and they even had one that was already painted black. Cost is just under thirty bucks.

Nit nearly as restrictive as mesh.

Cary pointed me to the Home Depot for a screen kit and I found the screen guard for 18. 99. It is sitting in my shed waiting for some warm weather for the install. I would be interested in how you mounted yours. I am thinking about an aluminum bracket attached to the large bolts hoding the condenser on. I usually make something hard out of a project and would be interested in making it easy:D
