6.9 liter Ford Diesel Reliability in VFD

I have buyer for my 1992 d250 4x4 ctd for $8,000, 1992 with 77k miles auto trans. The dodge rides too rough and after driving 1500 miles a 2000 PSD lariat 6spd that my buddy sold for $16,000 I am wanting to upgrade to more power

I am going to look for a replacement. looking in the local papers I see the following. I want something newer, and a diesel, but am limited in the experience. I have $15,000 but want to put more towards the mortgage.

please any suggestions? I want best value (assuming all are in good condition) and I would like to sell it in a few years and pick up a 2005/2006 dodge second hand.

*2001 CTD HO 3/4 TON Ext cab, short bed 6spd, 130k $13,000

*99 CDT extracab dually 5spd with new lift and injection pump for $12000

*97 gmc 6. 5liter 4x4 135k miles $7500

*99 ford 7. 3L extra sab new trans 185k $10,000 auto with perf chip and dent.

*1996 Dodge Ram 3500 ctd extra cab Truck auto 140k salvage title though$7,200

I had a 2001. 5 HO 6 speed 4. 10 Quad cab long box. Great truck and I had no problems with it. Got close to 20 MPG and towed the 5er just fine. That would be my vote. I sold it with 36K on it in Dec 2003 for about $24k.

If it were my money, I would be staying far away from the 6. 5L GM. They are really tempremental and expensive to fix. I had two, and they were decent when they were running right. The IP's are known for early deaths, but it is possible to relocate the PMD to help them live longer. The plastic valve keepers suck.

The 7. 3's are great motors, though I would look carefully at that one since it has been chipped.

I don't care for salvage that much, so I wouldn't be terribly excited about the '96, though it could be a real steal.

Depending on the mileage of the '99, I would likely be most interested in it, since it has the new LP and IP. Of course there is also the pesky 53 block thing. The '01 sounds nice, too.

That is what I would do if I had $15k. But I don't. However, I could spend your money for you if you would like. :-laf :-laf :-laf

I would consider the '96 since that is my favorite year of 12 valve engines and I have had almost no trouble out of mine with 200,000 miles. You could get it checked out to see if it was properly repaired. The 12 valves have more power potential with less problems and for less money. They generally have better fuel economy. Any of the CTD's would be my recommendation. 6. 5's are gutless and 7. 3's have their issues. Can't beat an inline 6!!
