I am looking to borrow a jig so I can kill my dowel pin before it kills me.

If someone would be willing to loan a KDP to me for a couple of days I would be very appreciative.

OR... if anyone has a sketch available I can easily make one or two... .

Please send a pm if you are willing to help me out.

Thanks!

I'm on the N E "list" to borrow the jig. Actually I work with a 2nd gen guy that was already next on the list, so I slimed in. I should see it in a week or two.

My plan is to make up a drawing that I will post somewhere (Bushwacker, I'll need some guidance here) and get at least a couple made up, one of which will be available to get passed around.

I have access to a pretty good machine shop, so if the prints could be scared up for 1st gen jig, I'm willing to get some made to pass around also:)

kdp jig

First of all, Merry Christmas and a very "bombing" New YearOo. from all of us at our house to all of you & yours at your house.

I work in a machine shop so it would be no problem for me to make one. All I need is a sketch of one with the dimensions and I could turn out a few. Are the jigs the same for both 1st & 2nd gens?

I have read in the TDR somewhere that the jigs are the same.

When I get the sketch made I'll make sure all those who volunteer to make them get a copy.

Jay

I have used both first and second gen jigs. They *were* different. Somebody said that a second gen jig would work on a first gen, I don't know. I don’t know why someone would take the time to make a specific first gen jig, if the other jig would work. I think that the first gen jig is easer to use because removing the alternator is not necessary. They bolt-up in the same location, but the first gen jig drills at more of an angle, and used a bigger bit. I'm sure that the bit size isn't that critical, just as long as the correct tap and cap screw is used to for the hole. Because the cases are different, I think that the angle is critical for drilling directly in front of the KDP.

JLEONARD- if you read in the TDR that the jigs are the same, they very well may be. I just want a DEFINATE answer as to if they drill in the same location.

Mike

The only person that I am aware of that has a KDP jig for the First Gen Trucks is Bob Beauchaine who owns a First Gen Truck and is also a TDR member. I know from reading a couple of other boards that Bob has put a few KDPs to rest.

I was wondering if anyone had tried just drilling the front cover, inspecting the pin and peening the edges of the hole. I'm guessing the whole process could be done with a fairly small hole that could be easily plugged.

Just wondering-

Jay

Jbolt- Peening would probably work. However, I like the peace of mind in having something in front of the pin so it CAN’T come out.

I used Bobs jig to stop my KDP. He is a great guy, and would be someone good to ask.

Mike

Guys, Mike is right a 2nd gen Jig is DIFFERENT then the 1st gen jig. Don't be fooled by bad info out there. The gear case is different between the two.

Then if that is the case, I still am looking for a first gen jig to borrow.

Mark, do you know what the difference is between the cases? Or will I have to pull the cover off to fix rather than try it with a 2nd gen jig that won't line up properly?

I've been in touch with JLEONARD. He lives in my area. I would like to stifle the "Killer Pin" too!

I hope someone out there can locate one (or some drawings)? Gotta be someone out in TDR Land that could get a handle on this for us. :)

Bruce

Bruce,

I have located a jig. Bob Beauchaine said he lend me his jig once he kills a few KDPs that he got scheduled.

I'll keep you updated.

Re: KDP Jig

Possibly someone could post a drawing of the jig and we could get a few more of them made, hint ,hint.

Back to the top with this idea... sounds like we have the resources to make more jigs, but we need the plans...

Randii

Randii,

If you follow the thread from the top, you will see that I have already taken the hint before you even mentioned it. :D

How's that for "forward thinking"?

;)

How many are you volunteering to make? (there are how many 1st genners?)

Seriously, when I get the sketch made, I'll be posting it. Should be next week sometime.

pm me with your e-mail address so I can get the sketch to you if I can't get it posted here.

Jay

I thought I had followed!

If BW can't post it, I can... it may help to have it in multiple places.

Thanks for stepping up to the challenge, JL!

Once we get the sketch, I bet we can organize on a scale similar to those slope-nosed second-genners. :p

Randii

I'm with Jay, he is sending prints when ready and I intend to make a couple for circulation for use "back east". If Jay wants to handle the east coast distribution of this operation, I will attempt to service the midwest region;)
