Hello all I have a 1990 w250 four-wheel drive can't seem to find a new radiator for it radiator shop wants six to $700 to recore it anybody know where I can buy a new one for less or is that going to be the going rate? Thanks Mike 585-330-1618
I bought a KKS aluminum radiator for my truck and tbh it is a piece of garbage. It started leaking after 3 months. Gladly I kept the OE original and just had it recored by a local shop which I should of just done in the first place.
That radiator is a crossflow, fits the '91.5-93. The 89-91 is a down flow, they will not interchange. Click on the link I posted if you want to see the difference.
I found a used aftermarket on Fleabay. Had it pressure checked, cleaned out system, installed. Been working great, going on 2-years. Kept my original, I'll have Rebuilt in the future. Keep diggin'
Blessings, Patrick
My 89 use to crack the mounting flanges off the tanks. Rough Ny roads. Then I saw an article in TDR on how to install the later larger 91 radiator. A few parts and a new radiator later and I never had an issue again. The later radiator is mounted on rubber bushings and is a cross flow design. One of the best improvements I did to that truck.
@NIsaacs, Up flow vs cross flow makes no difference on the function of a radiator. As long as it will fit, the water will flow through! Yes, there may be a bit of modification needed whether a new hose or enlarging a mount hole. If it wouldn't have worked, I'm sure Geno's wouldn't have it available for sale.
Thats my point, they don't fit, might as well shoehorn a Ford radiator. Geno's wouldn't be the first vendor to slip up or not add enough info. Most people that ask for help finding a part, want "the" part, not a remodel job.
Hey Guys, thanks for the post. We (Geno's) did list this incorrectly. In our excitement to offer a replacement for the hard to find stock radiators we didn't think to double check the specs. We will get this updates ASAP.
Thank you,
Brandon
Yes 1079 is the correct number through Spectra in Canada they said they had one in stock in Michigan and this was a month ago probably in November and for whatever reason I couldn't get it out of Michigan for 2 to 3 weeks so I had my local radiator shop record for about $400 and I had it back in a couple days they initially gave me a quote of six to seven that's why I started looking for a new one but as it turns out it was only around $400 thanks for everybody's help
