Ok I finally got the money up to buy a new transmission. Where do I get one, and how muck should I spend ? Also what is involved in installing a NV4500 where a Getrag was ?

Kyle

Check Standard transmission at 1-800-std-tran. I think it runs around $1600 +500 core. That price includes their fully splined mainshaft kit already installed.

Others have done this swap, and if you check the TDR classifieds I seem to recall a bellhouisng for sale. Your clutch and flywheel will work, but you might have to machine about 0. 06" off the end of the hub on the clutch disk, or off the end of the NV front bearing retainer so they won't hit. Depends on which bellhousing you get.

I have a spare 97 model 4wd 4500 but hadn't thought about selling it. . .

Get ahold of them before you buy.

They have their own Dodge Cummins that goes to the track and get abused.

They have a full service shop, and specialize in rebuilding Getrags, 5 & 6 speeds for Hot Shots, competition, as well as the daily driver.

They find out what breaks, and fix it right. They also have the custom 1"3/8 HD input shafts, and the only clutch on the market that can handle the abuse high horsepower sledpulling, and still be a daily driver.

This is a good place to start for any mod.

Good Luck!

kyle make sure you check out the 5th gear first on the one I got I was told it had the updated nut witch it did but the dhaft was trashed so that added another $300 to the good price I payed for a little more Icould have got a rebuilt one George

Talk to drives mopars. He may still have his conversion bellhousing and clutch for sale. He is asking less than half of what they cost new.

NV4500 swap

I replaced my second getrag with a new NV4500 and used an Advance Adapters bellhousing. They sell parts to put 4500's in a lot of different vehicles and were pretty helpful to me. Total cost all new was about $2500. I had to have the front bearing retainer shortened and changed out the input shaft for one with longer splines. That price was for parts only. the hole in the floor for the shifter has to be moved back about 4" and you can either modify your crossmember or they will sell you one. My original driveshaft works but some people have to shorten thiers.
