Engine difference: 2010-2012 cummins 3500 vs 5500

Hay from Iowa. After 2 years I have my 12v!

Hey all, I recently bought a 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 2wd Cummins that’s is lifted about 2-21/2 inches and rides like a tank. I’m trying get some ideas on better shocks to put on it that may help it alittle bit.

Bilstein seems to be a popular shock on this forum. I don't know specifically what they offer for a 2nd Gen with a slight lift, but it may be worth a look.

doesn't matter what shocks you use, it's gonna ride like poop. take the lift off and i'll be a dream to drive.
problem is the angle of the control arms.
ranch 9000's are good, bilstein, fox, all worth looking into.

I know it’ll ride great if I put it back stock but it looks good this way lol
Then you need to do it correctly and get longer coils. With the spacers the coils are compressed and contributing to the brick like ride.
What size tires do you run? Running the correct air pressure has a big effect. Alot of people mistakenly run with their tires overinflated.

That’s what I been wanting to do is put longer coils instead of the spacer nothing it will ride better I just haven’t been able to find any for a 2wd and I don’t know if 4x4 coils will fit in it or not? I have 33/12.50/22” Nitto Terra Grapplers on 22x12 wheels

You guys do know that we mostly drive 1 ton trucks they all ride like ****. Want a smooth ride get a 1500 or one of those "Girly Man" GMC products. that said best shocks I've found are Bilsteins. Nothing lasts as long or provides a fair ride.

Your suspension and wheel choice sounds like a total disaster. If you want a spacer lift and 22" wheels to ride like a cadillac, I can't help you. New shocks aren't going to fix it.

Well I bought the truck this way and wanted to see what I could do before I just put it back stock

I’ve actually had lowered trucks and 4x4’s that ride worse so it don’t really bother me much I was just asking mainly bc this is the first diesel I’ve owned and I know they already ride worse them 1/2 ton trucks.

Thanks everyone for the help I’m going to put some bilstien shocks on it and go from there but I appreciate everyone’s opinion and comments

The Bilsteins will help, but not 100%. The spacers make it ride a tad rougher than the longer coils. Fact of life. It's still better than a leaf sprung truck, trust me!
