I have yet to find any competent mechanics at any of my local dealers so I guess its time to go back to the ol tried and true "if you want it done right do it your self method", even the warrantee stuff. This is the first time I have ever tried to take some thing in to get fixed, and it will be the last. But since this is my first deisel, I have a feeling I will need a good reference to start from. Chiltons and Hays just dont cut it, they are ok if you have a minor question about how to do some thing but they dont go into enough detail when your dealing with something you dont know much about and most of the parts are too expensive to dammage due to lack of knowedge. Lets face it these new Rams arnt the ol 70's Chevys, Starter $30 Water pump $35 etc. I have had a couple of very knowledgable older guys tell me that they have seen in the past 2 versions of "Factory Serivce Manuals" the one to sell to the public and the ones sent to the Dealers, I am not sure if it is still true but I want to find the exact same thing as the Dealers have in the back room.

Any one know where to find such a thing??

Depending on what year truck you have(No Signature), I ordered mine from Dodge. Best $100. I spent. Get the Factory shop manuals only.

The dealer has more than just the service manual. There are also Powertrain, trans, body, and chassis manuals availible. The other books give the diag procedures for trouble codes. I'm not real sure what the chassis book has but the powertrain book covers the engine some years have a seprate manual for diesels. The trans book gives the diag for trany codes, body manual covers air bag, trip computer, insturment cluster, etc.

I ordered my manuals from Helms Manuals ( 1-800-890-4038 ).

These seem to be the factory service manuals. I ordered every type ( Chassis,Drivetrain,Elec. ,Body,Etc. ) they offered. Lots of info;I consider these books one of my best purchases for the truck. Thomas
