Competition finding info for truck pulling

I need to find a reputable gear shop to discuss the option of adding a Detroit Locker to the rear of my truck. I'm fed up with the stock limited slip leaving me stuck. Does anyone know of a good shop with the experience working on these rigs? I hate to just pick a name out of the phone book without a good recommendation.

Also, any comments regarding the install of better traction devices to the front and rear of these trucks would be appriciated.

Thanks

I read about a shop in Sacramento that did a big rebuild/drivetrain swap in a second gen truck. "WFO Offroad" I believe. I had some work done on my old 2nd gen 1/2 ton years ago at the 4wheel parts shop in Oakland. Might also try Left Coast Diesel they are south bay I think

If you're still looking for a shop try these:

1. WFO Concepts in Auburn WFO Concepts

Great shop, I went to college with the owner. They built my Dana 60 for my rock crawler.

2. Pacific Fabrication in Morgan Hill Pacific Fabrication

The owner and his lead mechanic are very close friends of mine and are in my 4 wheel drive club. THey do great work.

3. Left Coast Diesel in Concord leftcoastdiesel.com - WELCOME

Great guys, just bought a whole slew of parts from them. They'll take care of you.

Good luck!!!

Thanks for the referrals. I inquired at Bayshore Truck Parts in South City when my driveshaft center bearing took a dive last week.

I need to do something. They recommended a Track Lock instead of the Detroit for my truck. I'll have to look at my options. All I know is that the stock LS isn't doing what I need done.

I'll give these guys a call as well.

Well, I’d definitely agree with Bayshore…. I wouldn’t recommend a Detroit in a daily driven vehicle. It doesn’t have the best street manners and would be a handful in wet weather. I’ve got detroits in both axles on my rock crawler…. but that’s a different story completely. I’d recommend either a selectable locker (like and ARB…but don’t know if they make one for our axles) or the Detroit truetrac, Nospin or the suretrac. Either of those should do well for you.

Good luck and any of those guys you call should be able to help you out and take care of you.

I used to have do all my rearend work done by a shop in Santa Clara called Rearend Specialties. Owners name is John. IMO they do excelent work at a fair price.

I had a lot of work done on my race cars there, but never needed anything done to my trucks. Although, I did see 4x4 trucks being worked on many times, during my visits.

Also, another thing I liked about his shop was, he didn't mind if you brought your own parts. Most shops I've done business with, frown on that.

It's been a while since I've been in there, so I would suggest you call him first.
