Oo. I just love that little bouncy guy. Hello, my first post here. I've decided to purchase a CTD. I'm really not very brand loyal, and Dodge really never impressed me much ... that is until I drove one of these trucks. I drove the GMs and Fords, and decided to give Dodge a try just to say I did, and boy, what an eye opener.

The plan right now is to purchase a truck in about a month. I'm looking for a new 600 (maybe a used HO if the right deal came along). CTD QC 4X4 long bed srw 6 speed slt.

I have a couple of questions for the experts here. I'm in California, and a lot of the really great deals seem to be out of state. Some are WAY out of state. What are the rules for us Californians purchasing 600 diesels out of state and bringing them in? I know Tommygun is selling them for a great price, but I will need to pay my taxes to Arnold and register it here legally.

One other question, is there anyone here who's taken a SRW long bed and put one of those dump kits on it?

Welcome to the Collective, and happy hunting for the first diesel!

You're in the right place to learn all there is to know about the Dodge and Cummins.

TDR!!

Unfortunately only California and its border states can order a new dodge with the CA emissions sticker - I don't think there's a difference besides the sticker though. When you bring it into CA, you'll have to pay taxes if new (less than 7500 miles). Check the CA DMV site on registering out of state vehicles. Last time I looked, it stated that if you payed sales tax in the purchase state, that will be taken into consideration when registering your vehicle in CA - I DO remember it was a little too vague for me. Of course if you can manage to get 7500 miles on there before the 20 day deadline, then NO TAX. Or if you find an 04 HO with more than 7500 miles then no tax and no need for the CA emissions sticker.

I ordered mine from a dealership in Oregon - no tax, i just pay it to CA - a certain way to avoid the vagueries of what I read on the DMV site. Tommygun said he was trying to get DC to allow him to order the CA emission code, but no luck.

Welcome to the TDR and happy hunting.

I odered mine for $1000 below invoice in Oregon, if you think you might order let me know I'll pass on that info.

You da funny guy, yes, you are.

Actually I was thinking along the same lines. I guess it would mean some 350 miles per day, probably more in order to take a break here and there. Of course I'd bring the family along and our TT. I'm more concerned about any legal ramifications than actually doing the miles.

FWIW, putting the miles on would really not be a problem for me. If you're interested in reading about one of my longer days in the saddle of my sport bike, click this link.

Just bring it back from Oregon (no tax) and pick up the family. Then take a trip to DisneyWorld, spend a week there and come on back. With a stop in the smokies and the rockies on the way there and back with the TT, you'd have about 7500 miles and a nice little vacation.

You could pay for it with your tax money, ha ha.

The 600 is 50-state legal. The only catch is the California folks still need to order the "CARB" model which as far as I know is exactly the same, just has CARB's stamp of approval.

Exactly. Welcome to Kalifornia. You can't even buy a lawnmower here unless it meets KARB standards.
