A little filter cutting fun

Intermittent rough idle, with stall. No code

Lost the engine to my 2003 with manual six speed.Looking at either replacing with long block or finding a low mileage engine. Any recommendations on builders or engine companies to start calling. Thanks, Frank

Frank, rebuild it yourself or have someone local do it. You can have a 500hp reliable fun to drive beast for about $8000. I know, because I am building one as we speak. Here are my specs.

2005 6.0 Cummins (5.9 bored .040 over)

PAI ENGINE KIT - STD RODS/MAINS - .040 PISTONS
DPS 62/65/12 TURBO
DPR INTAKE ELBOW
REMAN INJECTORS WITH INDUSTRIAL INJECTION 60HP NOZZLES
REMAN CP3 WITH BAG OF PARTS
HAMILTON 178/208 CAM
HAMILTON 1.45" TAPPETS
S&B 75-5094D DRY INTAKE
DIAMOND EYE K4232S "QUIET" 4" EXHAUST
GDP MK-2 + Big Line 2 MICRON FILTER KIT
SMARTY JR J-06 TUNER
ARP HEAD STUDS
RUDYS INTERCOOLER PIPES AND BOOTS
M-PACT 05224CBKIT CLUTCH KIT
CSF 6009 INTERCOOLER ALL METAL

Or there are tons of longblocks on eBay for around $4000 if you want to go that route.

Eric, thanks for the feed back! I'am looking at a long block from Kaufman out of Texas. $3600.00 plus $1400.00 core charge. Ill either have my turbo rebuilt or buy a new one (depending on how much damage). I've owned many Cummins engines since the first one came out back in 89'. I cannot figure out why this engine developed an engine oil leak on the left side (drivers side) and leaked out all the engine oil! I was driving down the road and I thought I had seen some oil on the ground through my rear view mirror, I went maybe two more miles and the entire truck just shut down!! I thought maybe a bad EMC, BUT no! Pulled out the dipstick and not a drop of oil on the stick!!! I was hoping the Amsoil oil I ve been running since new would have helped, maybe it did for a little while? Anyway truck is at a local garage, will have it towed to my friends house and remove the old engine (and hopefully see what happened) and install the long block. The real disappointing thing is .... the truck only had under 60,000 miles on it!!!!! Iam the original owner and bought it new back in August of 03'.

Sorry to hear that Frank! Good luck with your engine swap. Usually on the CR 5.9's its the piston rings that fail and brake. Not sure what your major oil leak could have been.

I' ll post what we find, if we can see anything. The only thing I noticed while I waited for a tow company was a round shiny hole about 1/3 up from the bottom of the engine through the drivers side wheel well. I think thats where the oil pressure sending unit plugs into???? Again, I hope to find out more once we remove the engine.

Yes the oil pressure sending unit is on that left side, as well as a few other things that could put out a lot of oil in a hurry.
