Just wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of a Superchips dealer that you think has the best price. I had been seeing them on ebay for under $300 up til about 2 weeks ago. Haven't seen any since.

Thanks,

Ahhh don't let these guys scare you. Not everyone wants or needs more power than what is adequate for towing or general driving around. Although 350+ Hp is fun and the more Hp the more fun but some of us use these trucks for what they were built for, towing and hauling.

Just tonight I installed the superchip micro processor and am quit impressed with it. I will have to update my signature.

Now the only thing the superchip needs is a boost fooler and it will perform just as good as an EZ or VA or any of the minor fueling boxes out there. When you add the cost of the superchips and a boost fooler together they cost about the same as an EZ or VA. Now to me this is where the superchips shines you also get a speedometer corrector and a diagnostic code reader, you don't get that with the EZ or VA or any other minor fueling box that I know of.

Now if your going to go crazy on Hp then you might be better off buying a major fueling box first and skip the EZ or VA or superchip programmer, then again you could still use the superchip for tire size correction and a DTC scanner.

Who knows the superchip programmer might do away with some of the crappy data DC put in cummins ECM's such as stumbling or other problems others have been having. I'am not saying the superchips will do this, the programmer has not been around long enough find out, I'am just giving an example of some things it might correct. It could also hurt things, although I find that hard to believe due to superchips reputation is on the line and I can almost without a doubt reassure you they are not going to put some thing into production that has not had alot of research done to it.

I guess this post is long enough.

Oh, by the way jBlackwell, you have a PM.

hopefully the PM helps.

i had a superchips and it did work on my 98. 5 i tried all three levels nothing i have heard it does not work on some of the early models i bought an edge ez it cost me 400. 00 i got it from daves diesel in indiana i talked to randy. the boost elbow raised my boost from21toover 30 hope this helps someone thanks

Ron how do you think one of these programmers will work with my set up ? Do you think I can squeeze any more pony's out with it. I just bought a used one hoping it shows up soon. Pm me if you want. wondering what kind of results you got.

Stubbe,

I don't think it will do anything for you as far as power wise.

It has the same fueling as a VA (which you have) or the lower levels on an adjustable box which you also have.

I have not done any dyno testing so I am going by the seat of the pantsometer. After I installed the superchip program I went for a ride with my comp box off and I couldn't tell any difference between the superchip and my comp on level 1, so it performed the same as level 1 on the comp, EZ, or VA. I turned the comp on level 1 and no performance gain so again it is the same as level 1 on the comp, EZ, or VA. I turned the comp on level 2 and oh yah more power the same with level 3, more power just like the comp is suppose to work.

Now I know this maybe just the excitement of a new toy but level 2 and level 3 felt stronger with the superchips program than they use to feel alone. I really don't see how this could even be possible and without dyno testing I am going to say that it is just my excitement of a new toy.

The speedometer correction did not work the first time around so I went back home installed the correction perimeters again and it worked fine after that.

Just to explain again to others about my first post in this thread is that if you plan on going higher in Hp than a minor fueling box you could just as well save your money and buy a major fueling box. If you need the speedo correction for taller or shorter tires and DTC scanner the cost expense is your decision. If your looking for the power of a minor fueling box then the superchips is a very good dollar choice considering you also get a DTC scanner and speedo corrector. I would strongly recommend that someone put on a boost fooler with the addition of the superchips if you install the HI-PERFORMANCE mode and you tow. More air from a boost fooler helps keep the EGT's down and will help in the defueling at 2600-2700 RPM program the ECM has built into it from DC.

Sorry to make this post so long again but I like to cover as many bases as possible.

Stubbe,

After thinking about this a little longer and reading the instruction manual that came with the superchip tuner I don't think the power programs will work on your truck due to you bought a used programmer and once the programmer has been used on a truck it becomes VIN locked so it will not work on another truck. I think the speedometer correction will work and DTC scanner will but not the performance modes.

You could send it back to superchips and they might unlock the VIN for you, don't know if they would or if they would do it for a fee.

This would be the down side to owning a superchips verses an EZ or VA. The EZ or VA you could sell used to someone and it would work as made, the superchips will not and if superchips will not unlock the VIN for the next user.

If the last owner of the programmer put his stock program back in the truck, it should work fine. But, you can only program one truck at a time.

Yes, I mainly want it for the tire correction option that it has, although I can pick up a box that only does just that for around $125. That is where the extra $175 comes in to get the Superchips that will give me a little more pep. If I get another 40hp out of the superchips, that will make me happy. Of course, I will purchase a boost elbow and fooler separately which will be another $100.

I have read every post about the Superchips on this site and on Dieseltruckresource.com

My conclusions by reading all the post:

1. It will not work on a lot of the '98. 5 models

2. I believe everyone complains about the lack of power because it doesn't come with a built in boost fooler and elbow. I believe everyone doesn't have a separate fooler along with the programmer.

3. The power comes on later and has a smoother power band then a VA or Edge. Because of that most people are claiming no power increase because they are basing it on seat-of-the-pants feel instead of running dyno #'s. I have yet to see Dyno #'s before and after.

4. I have read from several posts that the Superchipos stack really well with the Edge Comp, which I will get one of these years when I get a built transmission. :)

5. I have heard that these programmers don't work as well on a ETC engine then a ETH engine

Here is an interesting scenerio about the Superchips. The man in this thread put a Superchips on a '01 with Stage 4 injectors, 4" exhaust, HX40, and AFE Megacannon. He picked up 62rwhp. He then installed a Edge comp only for the fooler and left it turned off and picked up nearly another 65+rwhp.

My conlclusion: I am thinking that the more fuel and air we put to these engines without a fueling box, the Superchips will produce more power then on a stock engine. I am basing it on the fact that I have heard it works better on a HO, then a ETC engine (HO's have bigger injectors, more compression, etc), and also the fact that after reading the link above the '01 that is an HO w/ AFE Megacannon, Stage 4 injectors, HX40, and 4" exhaust, boost elbow, and boost fooler (from the Edge Comp which was turned off), it made over 125+rwhp.

P. S. DPS, P. M. me with a price on the Superchips.

Well I got my used superchips today and the thing is vin locked. Either the guy I bought it from did not load the program back in or it just stays locked no matter what. I don't know. I will call superchips in the morning and see what they will do for me. So it looks like beware of used superchips. If you ask me this is a big downfall of there product. hopefully they will unlock it for me.
