I've Grown Up in this business and been around Dodge Diesel Trucks since they came out,,,, when i was 7. I finally have one,,,,,,, and finally a member of TDR (since early July) I have worked on gas burners all my life a built a pretty peppy small block D150. A lot of this diesel stuff is new to me. I have installed a K&N Filter and remover the silencer from the turbo. Whats Next? What other FREE horsepower can i get from my 12 Valve. Free meaning adjustments. I plan on Straight 4inch exhust and ETG and Boost Gauges. Looking for some tips,,, Help me out if you can

Welcome aboard Trizae! For a cheap performance gain AFTER you install the pyro you can slide the stock plate forward and play with the AFC locations and star wheel settings. Do a search on the above and you will find tons of info. And just a tip, you might as well start saving your pennies now because once the BOMBing bug bites your wallet can and will get very light fast:D

might as well start with all of the routine crap first... ... if there's any money left... ... then i'd just drive it like i stole it... .....

starter contacts

track bar

intermediate steering shaft

tps problems

darin's steering stabilizer

leaking 3rd taillight

adjust the doors - leaking cab

timing adjustment - 15. 5deg

abs sensor

brakes

leaking power steering pump

fuel return and supply lines

fuel solenoid boot

grid heater relay nuts need to be tightened

spare pull up solenoid relay?

spare thermostat?

replace all of those fluids?

+++many more that i can't think of now.

... ... ... ... . these are COMMON problems..... not just rarities on my truck..... do a search on any of these. lots of info.

You should have the 215 hp engine--check the data plate on the side of the gear case at the left front of the engine. If so (non exhaust gas recirc. engine), lsiding the torque plate can give high egt over about 2400 rpm. A TST plate would be much better.

Better check the exhaust manifold for lengthwise shrinkage--from the valve cover side, look at the bolts going through the holes in the manifold. If the mfd is shrinking, #1 bolt will be at the outside edge of the hole, and if you look at the bolt head side of them, you will perhaps see some of them are already bent from shrinkage of the mfd. If so, get an ATS before it breaks the ears off the head.

Fix your killer dowel pin, see TDR Issues 33, 40 for examples.

Best wishes for your new adventures.

i had a 97 1500, In fact a clone to this truck,,,,,just now i have a CTD/NV 4500 and 18 inches more bed,,,,, Also, being a dealer i knew most of the generic Dodge Ram Problems,,,,,,, This one past every test but Track Bar. Replaced That,,,, ran the service history, The truck has had the Transfer Pump replaced and 5th Gear fixed ( I hope they did that right),,,, I have read a little about the fuel plate,,,,,,, need a little more info,,,,,,,, also i am thing about a spring kit,,,,,,,

Thanks for the help and keep the good info coming

I think you would be happy with an 11 plate... lots of bang for the buck!!!! Also think about some 3K governor springs... I am about to do that mod to my baby, and cant wait!

Slide the plate, crank the star-wheel in the AFC housing all the way forward, and you will be set for a good while. But close off your wastegate too so you can burn the extra fuel. Any decent turbo shop shold be able to tighten/disable the wastegate for you. You should be pretty happy with that... for a while:D
