//// Custom Pintle Set up / heavy BUMPER towing with a 1997 W 3500 ////

While traveling in Texas last fall we saw a truck with a set of towing mirrors that mount on a bar above the hood. Does anybody out there know who Sells/Makes this set-up.
I talked to the guy who owned this truck, and he gave me the name of the company he got his from, but I seem to have lost the note I made.

I'm attaching photos of the set-up. If anyone knows where to get them I'd appreciate the info.

Thanks, Jack Dancoe

I guess my question is what makes then better than the factory ones flipped up?
Well, they will go much wider. But the reason I'm looking for them is I want to put them on a 1992 (1st Gen.) truck.
The 1st. Gen mirrors don't flip up or extend. I've tried about every type of clip-on and/or accessory mirror out there, and haven'r been satisfied with any of them.

As an experiment, I even tried to adapt a later (3rd Gen.) mirror to the door on my old '86 beater truck, and didn't like the angle they mounted at, or having to butcher the door to put them on.

I found the place that Makes/sells these mirror sets. Unfortunately, they are like so many other aftermarket accessory suppliers, i.e.-nothing to fit trucks older than 1994 models.

It looks like you have McKesh mirrors on the rig. I don't think you can get any better. I could have given you some mirrors about two years ago. We threw out a set of tow mirrors from my Grandpa's 1968 Dodge Polara station wagon. I bet they would have fit you pickup. BTW - Nice looking outfit you have.

Dancoe;
I made a set my self that attaches to the arm behind the mirror head with the extension wide enough to see down the side of my 5ver. The design was for the 94--97 that had the chrome head/black and would bolt to the arm behind the mirror head. all made from aluminum. I was thinking about making them and selling them but then the newer ones came out and the flip ups etc. These are held on with one socket head bolt and easily removed when not needed.

M Lee,
Do you by any chance have photos of the ones you made? I might be able to make something similar.
One of the problems I ran into with tow mirrors that clamp on to the existing 1st Gen. mirrors, is that the air pressure- when driving down the road- on the larger combined mirror surface area tended to push the mirrors back/in. I can shove them back into position, but after doing that a few times the mirror arm loosens up in the door bracket and the problem gets worse.

Crispyboy,
Thanks for the compliment on my rig.

The place I found for the cross-hood mirrors is:
Pine Hill Trailer Sales
Gordonville, PA Phone:888-897-1925
The mirrors are made in a long and short model. The short spans up to 12 ft. The long spans to 14ft.
They might be of interest to anyone who regularly tows over-wide loads.
They are made so that by changing just the hood brackets they will fit a variety of vehicles if you were to change years or models, or make.

Mine would claps too with high winds or passing ORT on a two lane road. I went into them and redid the bolts holding them together and also the friction area to hold them in place. On mine the right side from the factory is a couple inches shorter than the left side for some reason so when I have the extensions on I want them out further on the right, but I made them the same size arm. I have a 5x7 mirror and also use the stock ones to cover the blind spot.I'll see if I can get a picture of them mounted. There might be one in my pictures here if they have not been deleted. So far I can't find them.

I found my "old readers rig photos" and I copied the link but might nit work, haven't tried it.
