?'s on Towing in O/D

Transporting parts truck from MA-IN

A double axle 18' car trailer would be perfect. I have used a Uhaul car trailer to haul a '95 YJ on 35's and it worked fine. The 18' trailer will probably be a 16' deck with a 2' tail. Plenty of room...

I just need to find a trailer big enough to haul 2 Grand Cherokee's now...

Can you shoot me some details of the trailer? I need something about 35'-38' long. I figure a Grand Cherokee is 15' long and need a little space between them. Is that a 5er or a gooseneck?

Here is some info it also has all the tie downs for two vehicles. It is 38ft. and has a goose neck, my rig is a shortbed as you can see on the web site picture here is more info. Load Deck - PERFORATED

2-7000 lb. Axles with Brakes on all axles

8 Tie-down Wheel Lashings

36" Underbody Toolbox

Steel Coated E-Mod Wheels

Manufactured by Take3 Trailers. Build date in Aug. 2003 put in service 3/04

Plus safety break away. Meets all DOT standards. Light enough not to have to stop at weigh stations in the area I hauled.

I wiuld be happy to answer any more questions you may have

Having never pulled anything longer than a 20' single car trailer, or a 21' bass boat, how stable would this be with 2 Grand's on it, figuring they both weigh 5,000 pounds. I notice you have the SRW SWB. I have the SRW 3500 LWB, so I am just worried about pulling that much weight safely. Would a triple axle trailer be any advantage over a dual axle trailer? I pulled one Grand on a single 20' trailer and it wasn't a problem. Gross weight was 16,800 or so. What does a trailer like this weigh?

Sorry for the newbie questions...

As you saw I have the 2500 04. 5 I have a automatic. The truck is built for this. As far as safe it is rated easy for your two vehicles. I checked when I bought it and the three axel may require you to stop at aeigh stations. I love the handling and every thing about it. The weight of the trailer is 7000lbs. The trailer is in Minnesota at this time. I am selling due to health problems. I bought it to haul for a car dealer and made several trips from Colorado to Milwaukee and back. Please e=mail me at the address on the site I sent. I don't want to cause a problem discussing sales in this forum. Thank you Tommie

That's why I didn't bring up price. Figured this was good info for the forum side. I'll email for the rest of the info.

Thanks!

Off topic but what lift is in the ZJ? I have a 94 and look to be going with a Clayton long arm kit unless I see something better. Thanks

Clayton's long arm's are the best available. We were both just in VA a month ago at Grand Slam East. I've got the RE 4. 5" springs, 2" budget boost, Bilstein shocks, Ford 8. 8 rearend, etc...

I am going with Clayton's set-up whenever I can come up with the $$$. I am currently gathering parts to stroke the 360 into a 408 for the 5. 9 Grand...

are you sure about 7000# on the trailer weight?

that seems WAY high. a 50' 3 car wedge with 3 axles from BigTex weighs 6800.

Take 3's 40' wedge weighs 4200...

this is according to sales reps.

vagabond, sent you a PM about the trailer, i am very interested.

If the trailer weighs 7000, and your ZJ's weigh 5000# each, you will probably be over weight. But if the trailer is 4500#, and your ZJ's weigh 4500 each, you will be right there.

You have about 3000-3500# of tongue weight to play with on a 3rd gen SRW truck... ASsuming the rear curb weight of the truck is 2500-3500#. check www.dodge.com/towing for more details.

So, basically from what I understand the maximum total weight of everything combined that I can have is 21,000 pounds according to Dodge.com with my set-up. So, with a truck at 7500 pounds, a trailer weighing 7,000, and 2 Jeeps weighing 10,000 pounds, I am over the legal limit of 21,000 by 3,500 pounds? Is this correct? Is there any way to tow more than the 21,000 listed by Dodge legally? I plan to do a GN hitch. Even if I had a dually, I would still be 1,500 pounds over the 23,000 pound limit. Am I getting all of this right? If so, how do these guys with 3 car trailers legally pull 3 cars on a 40'+ trailer?

I am sorry, I called Take3 and they said the weight is 4000# this is a 2003 model and looks a little different but when I asked they said this one would be the same. Again sorry.

Thanks Tommie

I have a 20 foot utility trailer. I bought a big JobBox at a 'seconds' store for 3oo bucks. Painted it black and mounted it in the front of the trailer. It is way big enough to carry spare parts, camping equipment, whatever. That leaves plenty of room for the CJ-7 plus more room in front of the jeep for coolers, a bunch of firewood, a dirt bike, whatever. . It works well for what we do. . We tow it to the Rockies behind our motorhome.
