ok so the short version of this question is here

Im going to be getting a 3500 12v reg cab, and cant decide between the auto or manual

Ive been doing lots and lots of reading and called many vendors for the parts etc...

I was pretty set on getting a manual with the 215 pump, but after reading a few threads and talking to some vendors, I found out that the limitation on the NV4500 is about 650ftlbs...

Im looking to build this truck for a once a year competion (and maybe some drag racing when weather is nicer)

the competition includes

1 sled pull

drag race

dyno

and towing a trailer of certain weight and then measuring mpg

After talking to Dan at quad 4x4 he told me that he would recommend the NV5600 in place of the NV4500 and get a 13" clutch

what Im trying to decide is if to just fork out the money and get a build auto, and then just swap the 215 pump on the truck or just get a manual first and figure some way to beef it up or replace it with the 5600...

this is driving me nuts, Im looking to make roughly 500rwhp and 1000tq

it will be used in this oncoming competition and maybe once a month in drag racing or street racing...

anyone have any ideas? I had my heart set on the 4500 because I wanted a manual for the fun, I also know the 5600 cannot be shifted quickly which would result in poor drag times... .

any suggestions guys? any swaps etc... thanks for all the input

Carl

thanks guys

now i dont want this to sound disrespectful towards the extreme high horsepower guys, but can the autos be built to withstand the 500rwhp reliable?

the reason I wanted to go with the 3500 was to drop two of the rear wheels, change it over to a 2500, to save weight, but have the better brakes and still have the D80 axle, then if i pull the sides off I can add fender flares to cover (atleast this is what i have read) not sure if anyone actually have done it...

Start reading... Many high HP auto trucks out there... Red Rocket? Goerends Auto I think. Many others. Do a search.
